Yes, Carey Price won the Hart, Vezina, Ted Lindsay and shared the Jennings the same year in 2015. The Dominator has always been one of my favorite goalies ever and you can truly make an argument he’s the best. His style was super unique and I agreed with you, he didn’t have the amazing team in front of him that Roy and Brodeur had. Similar to Carey Price right now who helped the Habs for many years. This is an awesome video, really enjoyed seeing these Dominator highlights!

I'm a goalie from Chicago. I saw him play his rookie year in the NHL and fallowed him his entire career. I definitely agree with you 100% He revolutionized goaltending and brought his team further than any goalie could. He also made more spectacular saves that made you triple take in disbelief than any other goalie. Literally stopping shots that no other goalie could due to his flexibility and own style of play. Gold medals and Stanley Cups make you the best. He certainly obtained those. But once again, he made saves no other goalie could and literally won games night after night for the weak Sabers.

@11DNA112 жыл бұрын
Brodeur won't even break the top 10 in my list. Never faced shots. A very overrated player. Played with insanely stacked teams that defended like crazy, which led them into ruining hockey for 20 years. Brodeur played what, nearly 1300 games. Faced 40 or more shots 31 times in his career. The leader in that category is Roberto Luongo, with his 1000+ games and 114 of them with 40+ shots. That's over 10%. And speaking about Luongo. When Brodeur "broke" the 48 win record. Which he didn't, because Bernie Parent had ties, which Brodeur didn't. Luongo had more regulation wins than Brodeur did in that very same season. It's easy to look good with a defense like the 90's Devils had. Score 2 goals and defend, while ruining the game. Give Hasek that 90's Devils team and he would've won the Cup every year. Hasek dragged a sub par Buffalo to the finals and nearly won it for them, while posting some outrageous stats in the regular season and being even better in the playoffs. Brodeur never was an MVP during the regular season or playoffs. Hasek should've won the Conn Smythe during 1999 playoffs. He was the only reason the Sabres were in the finals. Hasek won MVP twice and the Vezina 6 times. Hasek wasn't only the best goalie in the league during the 90's. He was the league's best PLAYER for 3-4 seasons. Only one who could even challenge Hasek for the #1 goalie of all time is Patrick Roy, because he was the best playoff goalie you could have.

I wore his number throughout my whole career (not the longest career lol) because he was my idol. He was the one who made me want to strap those rented pads on for the first time. Although I turned into more of a butterfly-style goalie than Hasek (because I have been 6"5 since the age of like 12 and I could use my height to cover more of the net in butterfly) all my decisions and actions screamed Hasek. My dreams came true when he signed to the Wings and secured himself and the team a couple cups before his retirement because I am a day 1 Red Wings fan. His 2006-2008 retirement stretch with the Wings will be forever stamped in my memory as I was lucky enough to watch him play more than a handful of times live on my favorite team in the shitty but historic Joe Louis arena (that included 2 playoff and 1 finals game). He will always be the greatest and most unique goalie the league has ever seen in my opinion.

Grew up watching the HAsbeens and the Devils and they both employed defensive systems that gave their goalies the advantage. Hasek was by far the best goalie of his era and he rarely had a superstar with him or a defensive system to benefit him, yet took his Buffalo teams far beyond their expectations at the time. Especially, Nagano, he beat the very best superstars from Russia, Canada and the U.S without blinking and secured the gold medal. He also played until he was like 48 and was still a very effective goalie right til the end. He was so good that you hated when he played against you but looking back, he was probably the most exciting player to watch cuz he was so unpredictable.

I agree that Dominik Hašek is the best Goalie ever, I've thought that since I was about seven years old. I have a few of his hockeycards still saved away in my special place, never too be touched until my children sell them.. But my heart goes out to Henrik Lundqvist. He may not have the best stats in the business right now, but he's my favorite goalie of all time. For a long while he was the best around. He's done it for NYR so many times, and hopefully he'll keep doing it. I just hope the coach gives him the chance to prove that he's still better than the lot of em and lets him end on a freaking high. Thoughts goes out to Stefan Liv, who lost his life on a plane crash towards a game.. He started to play for HV71. Because of his talent, he was sold to Detroit for one season. After that season he was sold to Lokomotiv Yaroslavl. He died during flight towards a game.. Stefan Liv was a promising player for the Swedish Hockey Team and he died too soon.. And I loved watching him play.. And that's how this ties together. I love goalies, and Swedish Goalies are some of the greatest. Now there will be many people calling this sentimental and too much. I'm just thinking.. Why can't we add more than one thought in a comment? Why can't we just tell what we're thinking or feeling? Why can't this forum be a mini-blog if enough thoughts deem it? Fuck it. I love Henrik and Stefan, and Dominik. And I think that they where and/or are great. And I think that the imbeciles that claim otherwise are morons that should honestly not be allowed to keep their damned opinion. Facts are Fact.

I've been a fan since I was a kid. Read his book, watched his games. He was special and maybe even the best, but Buffalo wasn't as bad a team as you're trying to say. In Hasek's best seasons (96-99), they didn't have a ton of individuality, but they all played for one thing. One wonders what stats Dominik would have had if he played in New Jersey, for example, but unfortunately we won't know. According to individual stats, he was the best goalie of all time, still holds several records (highest save percentage), etc. Also, many stars have named him as the best goalie they ever played against. Mario Lemieux, for example. Watching the other goalies today, I think Patrick Roy was more experienced and maybe more valid overall as a team in the playoffs. You can't judge by one mutual game in Nagano, Hasek himself states in his book literally: "When it came to shootouts, I remembered that I was always better than Roy. I hope it won't be the other way around now. Translated wit

You first compare dryden to his peers and notice that hes so much better than anyone else in that era so lets say that he gets a rough rating of 120/100, 100 being the best at the time excluding our target player (dryden). Bruh… I’m not going to take anything away from Hasek here, here’s the GOAT without question, but that 99 Sabres team was more than a one trick pony. They incrementally got closer and closer to the Finals each year and had multiple players that played big roles in their success. Sanderson was an average regular season player but was a monster for us in those runs, same goes for Satan, Peca, Barnes, etc. It goes beyond the stat sheet, and that’s why you won’t understand that unless you were from such and such city during such and such run. It wasn’t 1999, it was a 5 year run from roughly 96 to 01. Playing in a new building with those sick new intimidating goathead jerseys even had an effect. Just ask the current Sabres about that… 6 goals in something like their first 6 games with the black and red, with players saying they feel “evil” when they wear them. But I digress, Hasek is the GOAT, but it was a true team effort. Only greater teams they had were French Connection in 1975 and the greatest team they ever had: 2005/06.

I grew up in the 90s hasek was always my favorite goalie as a kid, but to me, the 90s were still an era of unrefined goaltending. There's a reason there's only been one hasek and there will never be another. No goalie coach in the world would ever tell a kid growing up to watch hasek play and model your fundamentals after him. Unfortunately the goalie position has been mastered now. Every goalie in the league plays the exact same way and it's near impossible to beat. Even the worst starting goalie in the league now would be among the top 2 or 3 in the league in 90s and certainly the best in the league in the 80s. We all miss the wild west of the old NHL days. Very few, if any goalies from the would stand a chance in the NHL today.

Alexei zhitnik does not get enough credit for what he did here in Buffalo he played almost 30 minutes every night yes he didn't score many goals he wasn't flashy but boy he could skate with the Wind and he was Fearless to size and skill we would have had another one like him at the Blue Line we would have surely gotten the Stanley Cup for Dom

Best and most entertaining goalie of all time

You forgot Bernie Parent, who, arguably, was just as good in his prime as the Dominator. But I agree with you that Hasek is the GOAT.

Even though you butchered a bunch of Sabre player's names, you are correct. The Sabres did NOT have star players. They were one of the hardest working teams, (if not THE hardest working team) ever. However, they lacked 40-50 goal scorers, Norris candidate defensemen, star/name players, power forwards etc. The Sabres won by hard work, backchecking, forechecking, toughness, grit, hits, hustle and of course, Dom making huge and key saves, time and time again. As a Sabres fan, I can tell you, it would be tough to find teams that were as exciting to watch as Buffalo during these years. Now, we've seen some exciting goalie runs during the 35+ years I have been watching the NHL 1980-2020. There are far too many to name, here. But, Hasek's run was truly unique, exciting, jaw-dropping, highly critiqued, memorable, unrivalled and purely entertaining. You forgot to mention some other accomplishments of Doms. In 1997-98, he had 6 shutouts in December. The Sabres were a 7 seed going to cup finals against Dallas in 1998-1999, also. Those 6 Vezina trophies were all with the Sabres, too. I could go on and on about how this guy is the best of All-Time. You did a wonderful to tribute to him. Thanks and congrats!

Also the foot in the crease rule was changed but for some dumb reason buffalo wasn't aware but dallas was told

One correction. They were the underdogs in the 1999 finals. Dallas was the top contender. Whether that goal counted or not, Dallas was most likely going to win that cup. I mean, it was game 6. And the score would have still been tied if that goal wouldn't have counted. This one of those perceptions built up over time that is a pet peeve of mine. "That goal shouldn't have counted, therefore Buffalo should have won the cup". No.

Absolutely the best! Even in the Czech Republic he was great winning the MVP ( 87, 89, 90, 97, 98) and best goalie awards (1986-90)! Hasek is the only goalie to have the highest shot per game average in a season and have the highest save pct. doing it twice in 1996 and 98. He was called a "flopper" but I disagree. He was a very positional goalie and only "flopped" because he never gave up on making the save and would throw the kitchen sink at the puck if that's what it took! I remember one save where he dove out to poke check the puck but the offensive player arrived first and tried to tip it over a belly flopped Hasek who then stuck up his leg and stopped the puck with his heel of his foot! In the replay you can see his eyes looking back at his foot, watching himself making the stop! He also was the Czech's starting goalie in both the '84 and '87 Canada Cups. He3 played in the '98 and '06 Olympics winning the best goalie in the '98 tournament.

It's not a question. Hasek is the best pure talent goalie the NHL has ever seen. There were a lot of great old time goalies but the game was different back in the 40's, 50's, 60's, 70's. The 90's started elite training, Diet, Better equipment, much faster players etc etc. Makes Hasek that much more impressive. When he was playing it was a different game. Bottom line the competition level was higher and the game much faster

I agree that Brodeur, Roy, and Hasek are the Top 3 goalies ever and out of the 3, Hasek is the best skills wise.

I know its hard for you guys but it's pronaunce Hašek.. :D Btw great vid. Even tho i dont watch hockey (basket guy) i enjoyed this coz im from czech :)

To the people that say Brodeur is the best, put every other goaltender of the time in the devils net, and i would put money on Hasek being the goalie to bring in more wins than any other goalie. Brodeur and Roy were Hall o' Famers in their own right, but Hasek on those star studded teams wouldve been even more unstoppable as he showed when he went to Detroit.

Dryden had more *ties* than losses. He didn’t have any regular season OTL’s because they didn’t have regular season OT or shootouts when he played. Hasek indisputably best of all time though.

F the Stanley Cup final, if I had to pick one goalie to make one save to save my first born's life it would be the Dominator.
@billk95826 ай бұрын
Dominator was the best of all time. His style can’t be replicated and therefore can’t be taught or coached. Hasek is one of a kind and is simply the best!

All his unorthodox moves were practiced over and over perfection. It looks like a mistake but he knows what he's doing. The fact that he won six of the nine does Vezina trophies during the time when Roy and Brodeur was playing speak volume about how great he was. I am a number one Brodeur fan and I think Hasek's body of work speaks for itself.
