That's a pretty slick set up. There is almost no demand for square bales here anymore unless its straw. When I was a kid I worked for my neighbor we did 15 to 20k a year hand stacked on the wagon the barn and the semi. Thanks for sharing man great video.

I sure like the Massy Ferguson/Hesston "straight thru" baler design. All my JD balers would sit there and rock back and forth when I would try to bale loose hay from a pile. Nice set-up but pricey. The Bale Baron works well for Nance but an accumulator behind a baler and specialty loader to lift the accumulation would be more practical on a farm.

You sure got a lot of costs there. I had a customer who needed small squares so I just took a round bale and rolled it out and then came with my small square baler and baled it up. Ended up baling 400 small squares and loaded on hi boy and it was gone. That’s my story . Good video. But pricey.

Wouldn't it be more profitable to run an extra baler in the summer time and put up all squares?
@GerraldFarms
@GerraldFarms Жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching and commenting. It could. But just because something works for you it might or might not work for me. If you have tons of storage it could work better. If you have help to get the squares up it could work. Weather is a big factor. These guy run 100000’s of square bales a year. And we buy rounds to Rebale to sale in square. More profit rebaling rounds than buying squares to sale.

Almost seems to me that if you made small squares in the first place you wouldn't need to be doing all this extra work
@GerraldFarms
@GerraldFarms 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching and commenting. There’s a lot that goes into a decision like that. Labor to move small squares. Shelter space to store them. Good weather to do all that. When you run a one man crew. You can bale rounds a lot faster and if it rains on them it’s not nearly as bad as it would be on small squares. you can bale them all year as the demand is there for them. Not to mention you double-Triple you money. But what works for one person won’t always work for the next.

Marcrest offers a diesel power unit as an option when you purchase. I think it’s somewhere around 40-45hp to run the hydraulics.
