Proper reballing will not make your RAM dead but if you mess up... it will not come under a successful reballing

Possible to reball larger capacity chips and reflash/swap the spd chip from some desktop ram to sodimm ram? 4gb ddr2 desktop ram (especially ecc) are much cheaper than 4gb ddr2 sodimm.

Is it possible to upgrade soldered ram on some laptops such as macbooks? Just get bigger ram chips and replace? Is it dangerous or have side effect? I wonder why people aren't doing it. Apple charges crazy amount of ram. Like 10x market price of ram.

In theory it might be possible, but it depends on the specific system and if larger capacity chips that would physically fit even exist or can still be bought. It would take weeks or even months of research to determine whether a specific computer might be upgradable that way and then it will take several hours at least to actually replace the parts and then more hours to test whether the system is functional or is now unstable and can be thrown away... Even if it is a system where we know that it can be done you'd still be paying for some highly experienced technician to spend ~10 hours to aqcuire, replace and test the new parts. That will get expensive really quickly...

Hello Daniel, thanks for your comment! With ram it's simple, when I removed the chip I tried to turn on the computer with this ram but the screen was black and after the reballing procedure I reinserted the ram in computer and it's started normally. If you want to learn how to do reballing I suggest you start with the ram ddr and ddr2 you can buy them on aliexpress there are very chip. In the video I have misunderstood some passages (ex: you have to better clean the pitches from the solder)

The reason we upload videos on KZfaq is because of views. This is a video that shows the process and is not related to normal operation. All BGA footage shows the process of success, but it doesn't say that there will be discrepancies in the near future.

no because either memory controller on RAM module, or on motherboard, or on CPU, or all of these won't know how to address the excess bits so it's useless anyway.

Он никаких мегабайт дополнительно не напайвал. Он отпаял чип, а потом припаял его обратно с новым припоем (так называемый реболл или перекатка bga шаров).

@@youngrp Acabar o que, cara. Imagine que estou com uma HyperX que custa mais de 300 reais em que ficou com mal funcionamento por causa que uma das células corrompida. Se descobrir a célula corrompida e trocá-la --- ou apenas removê-la --- resolver o problema do módulo inteiro, valeria muito a pena SIM. Até porque não se acha tal memória, BOA, em sucata (cemitério); e se achar, é porque está ruim e TALVEZ serviria justamente pra aproveitar alguma célula BOA, se houver, e fazer a troca na suposta memória ruim qual estou me referindo /// Essa é a LÓGICA, amigo. Mas talvez essa lógica não se aplique por motivos técnicos de engenharia eletrônica.

RAM gets damaged sometimes, mostly due overheating. But not every RAM can be repaired by reflowing or reballing
