We’re headed to South East Asia! In this video I share what I’m packing for three months of travel. For ease of flight travel and agility whilst traveling, we opted to just pack a carry on bag, so we had to be pretty discerning and minimalistic.

What I found most helpful is to scan ALL important documents and keep on a cloud (ie email it to myself) to access it even if all your stuff gets stolen and you need new traveldocuments and suddenly have to prove you had a visa in the first place.

One thing I always think about with these videos is how much easier it is to pack lightly when you're going somewhere warm and when you're thin. You just need a lot less physical material.
@vinylhedgehog5574
@vinylhedgehog5574 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, that is something I thought of. If your boobs are bigger you gotta pack more padded supportive bras which take up a lot more space. I feel like most of these travel youtubers can afford to bring just a few bras/bralettes with minimal or no padding. I think for winter stuff the main thing is packing lots of base layers, but keeping it light with the outerwear since you just need to change the underlayers regularly. And wearing your heaviest items, ie your heaviest boots and heaviest/bulkiest coat. And making sure your kit is good quality, like some materials like merino wool are ultra warm and still lightweight.

My first reaction to 3 pairs of socks was no way then realized you would be wearing birkenstocks most of the time. Packing for a 6 month trip thanks for sharing what your bringing definitely helped me figure out what to bring

Finally someone who really packs the minimum. All the other packing videos I watched that were about “how to pack the minimum” or “how to pack light” let me laugh because they always bring at least 3 times as much as I do. But watching your video was great. You pack about the same as I do and gave me a few ideas as well. 😃

Hello. I think 5 pairs of underwear is a lot, especially since they dry so quickly. 3 would be enough. 1 bathing suit is fine. You might have too much clothes actually eventhough it doesn't seems a lot to you now. I've been travelling South America for 6 months and SEAsia for a 1 year: very cold and very warm weather with just a 34 liters backpack. My toothpaste and shampoo were solid ones, easier to pack. Just 1 nivea soft cream for face and body (they sell them in very small packages there) 1 deodorant, 1 soap and that was it. A dry bag to secure your high techs during travelling and do your laundry at night is a must to me (put your dirty close in it, some laundry detergent or shampoo if you have nothing else. Close, shake for a few minute. Rince and Voila!) Have a great trip!!!!

I learned a few things that hadn't occurred to me before. I'm doing a 10 day cruise (as I say...not like your kind of travelling), and it will be my 20 something cruise. I ALWAYS take too much. You could have cut down on bulk and weight by using solid toiletries and decanting the tablets from bulky jars into strong ziplock bags as they are flat and light! you should have rolled tightly and neatly so you could have fit more clothes in, the cubes were underfilled so you could have done so easily! you needed more shorts and more swimwear for the country for sure!

For the bags, it depends on the airline. Some asian airlines are particularly strict with a 7kg weight limit for carry on, so I'd just check ahead of time. The sunscreen Raw Love mineral sunscreen. The container I brought lasted the full 3 months and I still have some left. Safe travels!

Wait so if you bring only one pair of long socks, and want to use them next day, that means you'll be washing them everyday? Wow that would be too much of a hassle for me. I always bring socks for every day, if I'm traveling for longer than 2 weeks then maybe 10 pairs, since I can wash a bunch of them at once and let them dry not caring if I have a fresh pair or not. These minimal packing tips are great for sizing down but bring much more effort when you're traveling. But yeah, thats my pont of view. I don't want to loose any precious second of my trip

I’m curious where you got a couple items, and I have a suggestion also. 1. Those type-dye pants are totally cute and I’d love to know where you got them! Also, I have never seen mascara in a wooden tube, and would love to know where you found that as well. 2. My suggestion. Ok, I know you’re very limited in space if you’re living in a van, but you may still find use for this info, if you’re not already aware of it. There is a website, called Wellness Mama, where you can get free recipes for pretty much any makeup and/or toiletry product. These are all things you can make yourself, with truly natural ingredients, and nothing included that you don’t want. An additional benefit is that they are almost all solids, so they don’t have to go in the liquids bag on a plane. Deodorant, tooth powder, solid lotion and perfume, and lots more to make yourself and have fun with. There’s nothing like having products that all have exactly the scents I want, and only contain ingredients that I approve of! Another website, sort of related, that I love, is Brambleberry, where you can buy all the ingredients and containers for all your homemade natural products. I think you did a really good job showing what you were bringing, and with keeping the quantity down and I hope you really had lots of fun where you went.

I thought of one more thing! A headlamp. Would be nice to have for all the streets without street lights and some cave hikes we wanted to do.

Rebecca Sisson thank you! how many ounces was your water bottle? I’m also debating whether I bring a reusable plastic or insulated/metal water bottle. Plastic to avoid the extra weight of metal, but metal will keep my water cold. Although, in my past experiences in Asia, I rarely came across cold water anyway. What are your thoughts on reusable plastic bottle vs. reusable metal bottle to take to SE Asia?

Ava Bibi mine is 20oz. I would have liked at least a liter. I always opt for metal over plastic.

@@RebeccaSisson I have a plastic reusable water bottle. I know your rather have metal but it's reusable, it has a covering protection and it's 40 ounces. Its from a brand called Pogo and I've had it for a year. Live your videos

Did they take the blade out of your safety razor at TSA?

Yep. I’ve traveled domestically with the blade in the razor without issue for years. First time it got taken.

I would change two things of the clothing, I wouldn't bring crop tops because there are a lot of places in Asia where its not appreciated if you wear those. Therefore I was not comfortable in wearing those most of the time. Also I would have brought surfing clothes because both me and my BF had a broken bikini/swimshort after one day of surfing.

So confused by all the comments about how minimal this is. I use about the same amount in my day to day non-travelling life... and I wouldn't say I'm a minimalist!
