my wife of 46 years and i saw them in 1974 when we first starting dating. I had seen them in 1972 with Mach ll with child in time the encore. This was music that replace beetles, and other 60's bands, some great but then Deep Purple and Led Zeppelin hi the scene rock exploded !!!!!!!

My first ever concert was Deep Purple at Hammersmith Odeon in 1974. It was so loud, the guitar hurt my ears and the bass hurt my chest… and we were in the back row.

I still listen to a lot of music. Heavy metal is my favorite. But, Deep Purple is what I listen to more than all the rest combined. lol. I continue to this day enjoying Blackmore more than any other guitarist.

By 1973, Purple had become the biggest band around. That's Glenn Hughes with the high voice. This is actually one of Blackmore's last performances before he left to form the trailblazing Rainbow. Great performance and enjoyed the reaction!

The great David Coverdale and Glenn Hughes (bass guitar, vocals). I love both singers but Glenn Hughes is the man, that is the voice that blew you away. I just saw him three months ago for the first time and he is doing most of the "Burn" album. He is coming back this Saturday and I am going for my second Glenn Hughes show.

Fantastic reaction Rebeka - so beautifully dissected and explained. It's a classic track and one of the best as a show opener! The "Live in London '74" album was a pretty awesome one, considering they were a new set-up - I remember hearing it live on the radio back in 1974 and it's still one of my favourites! If you enjoyed the guitar work on this one then I would suggest having a listen to "You Fool No One (Live in London)" as Ritchie was on fire that night and created an unbelievable piece of improvisation - followed by an amazing solo. The track is a little long as there is also a drum solo to finish it off - but well worth a listen!

Glenn Hughes screams almost like Ian Gillan those days. I have a Deep Purple - Live in London lp-record which was released 1982 but that is from the different concert, it is from their Gaument State Theatre Kilburn concert. Probably from the same tour I guess.

When it's said that Deep Purple was by the 70's and is one of the most important bands in Rock History, this is what we're talking about! Regarding to the guitar, I agree with you, for Ritchie Blackmore is one of the greatest guitarists ever!!! This track was the title track of the first album with Dave Coverdale and Glenn Hughes replacing Ian Gillan and Roger Glover. Like many fans I was a bit worried who was going to replace the iconic Ian Gillan and Roger Glover....but all my worries were unfounded. Great choice! Glenn can really pierce the sky with those high notes, and the guitars always rock the house...but if you are interested in something mellow and dark with the same title, try Burn by The Cure...It's from the movie soundtrack to The Crow...a gothic 90's comic book adaptation starring Brandon Lee, the son of Bruce Lee...who also tragically died on the set when a dummy handgun round (a bullet without any gunpowder, used for camera shots of a loaded gun) had the bullet tip lodge in the gun, then when the gun was fired with a blank round (Gunpowder but no bullet), it projected the stuck bullet into Brandon's chest and killed him (At least as far as we know)...it's a crazy story, and The Cure's, Burn is basically the movie's theme song...

Glenn Hughes (bass) was in Deep Purple from 1974 to 1976... he is a lead singer as well in the 70's band Trapeze. He struggled for years w/ drug and alcohol abuse after '76, but eventually recovered and has been busy w/ solo albums... numerous projects like Black Country Communion (w/ guitarist Joe Bonamassa), etc. In 1986, Glenn Hughes did lead vocals for 1 Black Sabbath album ('Seventh Star') which was great... but his addictions got him ousted soon after for poor live performances.

Them and Janice Joplin were the jaw droppers of the 1970's especially blues. No one else came close. Great choice and thanks.

Hi Rebeka, here are a couple of fun facts for you. The sound during Deep Purple‘s '72 concert at London's Rainbow Theatre hit 117 decibels. I've read it was so loud that three people in the audience became unconscious from the noise. The current world record holders are supposedly Kiss, who reached a 136 decibels during a concert in Canada in '09. Their name was inspired by a1933 song of the same name composed by Peter DeRose, which was the favorite song of Ritchie Blackmore‘s grandmother.

David Coverdale later was the lead vocalist for Whitesnake.

I don't think anything Blackmore played on this video synced up to the audio. Which may actually be Blackmore's doing as he didn't want anyone filming him playing because he believed it gave away his "secrets". Blackmore had (has?) a reputation for being a prankster who takes the joke way too far, creating tension issues in whatever band he is with. One of his more notorious stunts happened when he was with Rainbow. He had the door to his keyboard player's hotel room bricked up, essentially sealing him in. Took some time to get him out of there and that gag along with others made for a lot of bad juju between the two.
