@@inigomontoya7115 -- Mark's rants are incredible because they're always inspired by his incredible love of cinema. He recognizes that Snyder has the passion for film, but he knows he lacks what it really takes to make good films. Snyder lacks the emotional depth, but he has the skill pull off beautiful images. I think once he acknowledged this, he began to go a bit easier on him. He still trashes his movies, because they're awful films, but he's gentler about it.

I enjoyed Sucker Punch, while I'm sure that it has plenty of critics and plot holes, as well as 300, though Sucker Punch more for girls with clothes, rather than mostly nude barbarian's butchering historic moments. Sigh. I have seen critics rip apart Rebel Moon for copying Star Wars and Seven Samurai etc. I think Zack sadly has run his course and though I am saddened by the loss of his daughter, I don't think he should be given more money for this series of films. Despite being a Rebel of a director. Even I can write cringe dialogue better than Hellyweird :P

The most baffling thing about Zack Snyder to me is the perception that he is a brilliant visual filmmaker. It seems like even people that make fun of his films always say things along the lines of, "He's a bad writer, but his movies are gorgeous. If he simply collaborated with different writers, he'd make great movies!" I know art is all subjective, but I'm not even a fan of him stylistically/aesthetically.

I think that what little of Zack Snyder’s recent interview with Joe Rogan confirmed everything I’ve ever thought about him. He’s a failed body builder who happened to go to art school, and then fancied himself as an artist who then bullied himself into a career in film, much to the enjoyment of people who think that body building centric video game trailer directors are good storytellers, and much to the despair of people who actually appreciate and promote the art of film as more than a means to make a poster.

I never understood the tactic of waiting to release a "Snyder Cut". it feels like they figure if it has those words in the marketing his fans will eat it up like pigs at a trough but surely most people are aware that he has full control over both cuts. So how does this help? Why release an inferior version that will almost guarantees that less people will watch the next one? It hurts my brain thinking about it.

Alita was awesome. I can see how the ending could have been unsatisfying in a cliché cliff-hanger kind of way, but at least all the immediate plot threads were brought to a satisfying conclusion. Given that it was based on a long-running manga and thus an extensive story with multiple arcs, reaching a conclusion to the first of those arcs is really the best you could have asked for from a motion picture.

If you made a supercut of people talking about grain and actually harvesting grain - between both movies - you'd end up with about 20 minutes. It's like Snyder wanted to make a movie about farming and shoehorned in scifi

This is a really good critique. Something that ruins so many movies for me is when they don’t conclude the story but end on an undeserved cliffhanger and demand a sequel. They don’t earn another film (or a franchise) through making the best movie they can, they insist on it by leaving the story inconclusive. Before streaming and the incredible ease of cinematic access we have today, I think films tried to avoid this because it was too costly a gamble. But it’s becoming a problem now. I like the Stars Wars Sequel Trilogy more than many, but a big criticism of those three films is they all relied on all three being watched to make sense (and with the mid-production ret-cons they scarcely managed that).

Former assassin/special ops #1 most wanted criminal in the galaxy immediately takes off her disguise as she SNEAKS around the enemy ship to blow it up. Former best general of the empire doesn't employ any real strategy for the coming battle except for maybe "yell loud". Sad surviving prince with a Force-like connection with animals does nothing with animals, but at least his hair is pretty. The ONLY character that actually did what we know them to do - and did it well - was the laser sword-wielding lady. And well, she died. The end.

Lol "Cinematic Pyramid Scheme" is such a funny term. Very funny review! These last few years have been especially bad for this kind of stuff. Even movies that people loved really pissed me off for doing it, like Across the Spider-Verse and Dune Part 1. That movie wasn't even *called* Part 1 when it first came out. And we *still* don't know whether Spider-Verse 3 is ever gonna exist. And don't even get me started on "Fast X" 😆

Well the ironically funny part is I can't argue a single point you made about this movie, but I enjoyed it. You are also correct that no O-scars will be received by this movie. I was yelling at my tv, too, during the last battle. BUT, because the first movie already showed me what to expect, the only part I was legitimately disappointed in was the Jimmy factor. But, then again, if he's THAT overpowered, maybe he shouldn't be relied on exclusively. As a side Alita, Battle Angel is a guilty pleasure watch for me, much like The Fifth Element. The former, with its clunky dialogue and the latter with its Power Rangers-esque practical villains. Rebel Moon isn't quite there but it's not far off. Maybe we all just had our expectations set too high because we heard Zack Snyder was directing his pitched "Star Wars" movie. Which, btw, I liked the sword fighting in Rebel Moon, too. Keep up the great reviews!
