This pandemic has lasted 2 years so far, which is longer than James Dean’s acting career in motion pictures. How good can an actor be that his legacy is intact after almost 70 years with a little less than 2 years??

What really makes this movie impressive is that back then cinema was still a developing art form. Actors and actresses were still figuring out how to emote and deliver their lines with their own unique personalities. Nowadays acting has almost a formulaic copy-and-paste style to it, but back then Jimmy was getting to do what he thought was right for the character, and the end result is that so many other actors looked to him for inspiration because he was so original in his time.

James Dean! The original rebel! With perfect hair! The idol and Icon of the Fifties! Brilliant Actor! You just rooted for him to win on screen. You instantly identified with him! He was the first teenage Rockstar! The loner and outsider looking in and trying to belong but always having to prove himself to others. They kept pushing him to react! They were punks in a gang and he was the loner. He remains forever young on screen! The idol who never gets old or decrepit! His image is intact forever!

You count on two hands the number of screen actors who had the clear discipline, intensity, awareness and focus of James Dean. Jimmy didn't tolerate rubbish. He said exactly what he felt and thought and that is such an admirable quality - because much of the time, he was right. It would have been amazing to see what he would have gone on to do, he had such great talent. Jimmy was himself throughout and many have said he wasn't really acting. Such a genius, he made acting look all too easy. Jimmy did what Jimmy liked and didn't give a damn what others thought about him. That is rare and so admirable imo. It sometimes got him into trouble, but it doesn't change the fact he was a great talent. He was a great, sensitive talent.

Natalie was so incredibly and naturally beautiful, and so sophisticated, even from such a young age. I think she's only 17 or 18 here and not many can look that beautifully put together and glamorous at that age, even if they are beautiful, so I find it funny and even a little sad that her character looks unhappy with her appearance for a second, like she's found a zit or something 🤣 I also love how her character goes from kind of mean to really loving and motherly. I've seen more modern movies where the popular girl ditches the cool boyfriend for the nicer oddball and becomes nicer so I feel like she was one of the OG's in that department :) And James Dean was incredible, as well as their other costar. His character broke my heart 😥 👏💔

It's such a shame that James Dean was so obsessed with being Brando, he really did not need to be because he was so talented in his own right. I think East of Eden, Giant, and Rebel without a Cause rank right there with any of Brando's movies. RIP Jimmy Dean.

I love how there's basically no one but them at Griffith in this scene...whereas now, you have to crawl up Vermont Ave in a line of cars, hope you get a parking spot on the side of the road up to the place (because the parking lot is totally full), pray your car doesn't get broken into, and then have to battle about 1.5 million other people just get a decent view from the observatory. Gotta love L.A....

This movie marked a turning point in my life. I was completely taken by the image, the essence of James Dean. I had to see this movie. And then the disappointment, the emptiness, the meaningless terrible scenes, scene after scene, the over-acting. It scarred me. This scene is a good example.

I'm 76 & never saw James Dean in person, but I believe my uncle's cousin, Dottie Harmony, was the blond girl, sitting on the car, next to Natalie Wood, in the scene depicted! I did see Dean;'s friend, Sal Mineo, in person, in 1958, when he made a personal appearance at my local theater for his film "Dino"! When he left the theater, I passed him as he got into a limo & at age 12, was surprised that, at 19, he was not much taller than me! R.I.P. James,Sal & Natalie!
