Personally i would take well made and entertaining generic monster flick with no DEEP messages and FEELS(GvK and some old ones like Final Wars)over pretentious ones(KOTM,anime triology)with interesting but poorly executed messages,which is imho worse than having no message.

@@user-vc8pu5vk6z What message do you expect to get from a movie about a giant radioactive lizard other than just watch him go about his adventures? The new movies aren't so much about the different perspectives of a people damaged by radioactivity compared to the people that damaged them with nukes anymore. The movies are americanized now. When I say they're lacking now I don't mean a message or an underlying theme, I mean how silly and beautiful the past movies were. Watch the old Mothra movies, see how they treat her character with respect. Watch the old Godzilla movies see how he's treated like a god and a force of nature. Watch the old monster movies and see how they handle humans interacting with the Titans. That's what I mean, I want more scenes like the one of Maddie and Mothra interacting, showing Mothra's gentle nature. I want more scenes like Dr. Seriwaza and Godzilla, I want more scenes like Godzilla and Kong interacting without fighting. That's what I want, I want to see these character be alive, they're not just beats that kill and hate each other, they have connections, purposes and duties that should be explored, but it'd be easier to do so with a show instead of a movie.

Even cheesier ones had an ok,passable stories and sort of moral,even if it was simple and childish,at least childish ones they didn't take themselves too seriously. Problem with kotm and Polygon anime trilogy is that they tried to have messages but failed to execute them. Like they could've just make Alan Jonah moustache twirling terrorist villain like Red Bamboo terrorists at this point,but no,let's add that dialogue with Emma about how he saw horrors of war blah,blah. Same with Emma and her underdeveloped motivation and forced redemption through sacrifice. Kotm also had only a little more monsters than 2014. Like if humans suck at least have monster scenes be entertaining. Aside from few moment's you've mentioned there wasn't really that much. Also speaking of monsters,it made Ghidorah,Mothra and SPECIFICALLY Rodan weaklings in comparison to Big G. Oxygen destroyer became generic weapon that failed and existed only as reference and excuse to explain Ghidorah's alien origin. Burning Godzilla was tragic in GvD,here it's just a power up like a generic shonen anime. Whole movie was refences and fanboyism for the sake of it and Dougherty being a fan doesn't excuse it. You know which director was also a big fan of monsters?Peter Jackson was also a big King Kong fan but he directed an excellent movie that had everything you'mentioned(Central park scene for example) and more. Kotm also repeated mistakes of cutting away from monsters as well. But with 2014 it worked since it was inspired by found footage and disaster movies and helped to build up final confrontation,it was first Godzilla movie in 10 years after FW too and it was just the beginning,Kotm didn't have this excuse,it even had a higher budget. As for emotional moments i think team Kong(mostly Jia)in GvK were fine. Kong and Jia on the ship,Kong travelling to Hollow Earth,etc for example. It's team Godzilla that sucked badly. No denying it. Especially alcohol pouring scene. Bernie was the only entertaining one,but kids were either obnoxious(Maddie) or boring and unecessary(Deadpool 2 kid,i even forgot his name,lol). I'm not trying to change your or someone else's opinion,but your first comment was kinda ridiculous,it's been only one movie after Kotm and you worded it like Godzilla and whole kaiju-eiga(monster movie)genre got ruined by GvK. Speaking of Kong and Godzilla interacting without fighting. Well,next MV movie is about Godzilla and Kong teaming up against new threat and possibly will have buddy-movie cop chemistry,G being old veteran cop and Kong being a newbie.
