Rebuilding a Center Console Fishing Boat - Episode 5: Rigging Tube

Welcome to my boat rebuild series on my 1983 20' Sea Ox.
I'm building the 3" PVC rigging tube that'll contain all rigging from the console to the stern. That includes all electrical wiring, throttle cables, gauges, steering, and so on. I do all of that in a future video, so you'll be able to see everything I'm talking about. I did make a small miscalculation with the length of the rigging tube, as it'll cause me to install the console further back than I'd like, but not too big of a deal. And while the rigging tube is very snug in the stringers, it would've been easier to just cut out the top half of the stringer instead of holes going through it - either way will work, though. Stoked with the progress so far! It ain't perfect, but it's good enough for me.

Water WILL ALWAYS go where you don't expect it to. You have to imagine how you will recover this boat and get the water out if it should get submerged unexpectedly :-)

Seal both sides of those plywood sheets with resin, it will help from water absorption.

Negative. That will keep it from being able to breath when it gets wet and will promote rott.

@@bipedalhominid6815 nope, sealing the plywood will prevent water intrusion, meaning wood will stay dry.

@@bipedalhominid6815 yes but sealing it will last 20 30 years sometimes longer than that, without will last maybe 4 5 years if not less.

Best thing you can do is take the 90 out i put one in my first boat i redid and what a massive mistake. Control cables are almost impossible to fit through the 90. Im redoing a sea ox now and am gonna use 4 inch pvc and 45s

The initial plan was to use 45s but deck wasnt deep enough where I wanted to put it. I went with a long 90, which definitely helped. Honestly, I faced more problems running through the 45 under the console than the 90. 4 inch pvc will be smooth sailing! Smart move.

WAIT WAIT WAIT Before you add the deck or touch ups you should add extra rigging tubes! Different directions like straight to the bow and both port and starboard side! Start planning your lighting and electrical and layout the plumbing for the bilge pumps! Beef up the stringer toprails under the console so if you add a second station or fancy tower T-top it doesn’t cause stress cracks

Too late lol. Not sure how I would’ve configured those rigging tubes though, but wish I would’ve done something different with how I ran the fuel hoses. The bow light can just run under the gunnel cap from stern to bow. That was always the plan.

Dude that purple stuff you used on the pvc is pvc cleaner not glue it won’t do anything to make them stick together. Glue is grey, clear or blue!

Everybody has to use channel locks to open pvc glue. They intentionally make it tight bc it leaks if you dont. When you close it use same method .especially the purple shit

I was just wondering why you used such big pipe 1 1/2 or 2 inch would have been plenty big enough.

Do not use 2" pvc as a rigging tube lol. This is for rigging of battery cables, steering hydraulics, throttle cables, and a lot of wiring. All of that will not physically fit in a pipe that small.
