This is definitely something were not used to! However this is a huge learning curve for us and we like to take on new challenges. We have been dreaming about flying for quite some time and now we are living those dreams. We are so close to getting our pilots licenses but first we must get this beast overhauled. Were super happy to share the process with you and cant wait to see where this takes us. Thanks For Watching!!!

Hey y’all I’m an Apache helicopter mechanic in the Army. The brake that you guys were talking about was your rotor brake, you use it to slow/stop the rotors from turning prior to shutdown. And the transmission oil depending on what type it uses will look dark when it’s inside of the sight glass especially if you are in a darker area, but new will look reddish. If y’all have any questions I would be more than happy to answer them!

Hey guy, I help rebuild my friend plane a few years are and there are thing you need to watch out for. All body work has to be inspected by a licensed FAA inspector every step of the way. If you remove a rivet it must be replace with an approved FAA rivet. Once we removed screws on my friends plane we were told we could not reuse the screws and had to purchase new FAA approved screws. ETC.

Welcome to the aviation world guys! We are a tight knit community and we’re all here to help one another out. So far y’all guys are doing great. Staying organized is key! One thing I wanted to recommend was to zip tie the bags to your panels. Tape works ok but when it comes time to put everything back together the adhesive stays with the panel and is a chore to remove at the end. We do big inspections on private jets, and even being in a climate controlled hangar we find that tape is best used on tasks that last no longer then a day or two. Keep up he good work!!

I have my A&P too, however I have only worked on Beechcraft 1900D's. I wish you both the Best of Luck with this project, I have been a subscriber for quite some tome now and really enjoyed the Military Truck build. If it is at all possible for you guys, may I suggest a Membership to EAA, Experimental Aircraft Association. EAA in Oshkosh, WI, for the week of the show, this year was cancelled due to CV-19, is the Busiest Airport In The World!!! It is an experience to be had. Once Again, Best of Luck, can't wait for this series to 'Take Off'.

I was a jet mechanic in the AF. Everything on this copter needs to be torqued. And all the nuts bolts etc wired. I was proficient in wiring hundreds of nuts and lines. Make sure it’s done right. Because I know you guys do everything right! Just wanted to do an FYI. Good luck, that baby will fly right guys!
@Woodymbr
@Woodymbr 4 жыл бұрын
You guys will go through all of this when you’re taking your flying lessons but it’s very important to keep in mind the maximum takeoff weight (MTOW) of the helicopter when planning your trips. Even though there’s space under the seats for bags it doesn’t mean you can always use them. The weight of you guys plus a full standard fuel tank will easily put you close to the MTOW. Most of the time you can either go far with one person and full fuel or you can go together with bags but you’ll be stopping a lot for fuel. Not that it matters as the more fuel stops means you get to see more places! Enjoy the build and enjoy learning to fly guys. Having a pilots licence and flying is one of the best things in the world.

These guys are light; I weigh 220 and when my 200 lb instructor got into a C152 that wouldn't hold altitude on a hot day (fyi heated air is less buoyant than cold). Its a very worrisome feeling when the aircraft (that needed an engine overhaul at the time), couldn't carry us - so yes be very careful with MTOW. A 44 would have been more forgiving but has MTOW considerations just the same.

@@rsprockets7846 It's a carbureted engine, there is no fuel pump. But fuel exhaustion and carb ice is something to be worried about. Helicopters are required to have a freewheeling unit so that the main rotor system and spin freely from the engine.

16:30 That brake you are talking about is a rotor brake, what happens is when you are shutting down, you pull the lever and it slow both the main rotor and tail rotor. It’s used so you don’t have to wait 5 minutes for the rotors to stop spinning. It can also be used when you turn on the engine, you pull it so your rotors won’t spin. I work on pave hawks, and this is really cool to see this type of maintenance in the civilian world. And you guys are nailing the component identification. Best of luck

Weird thing to notice but...The shelves you bought can be put together different to make MORE shelves. instead of making 2 shelves. you can link em together for 1 big 3 end unit (slightly more stable) shelf. or buy a few more cross pieces for a REAL long shelf. sorry if this is a repeat comment but it was bugging me and I love learning more efficient ways to do stuffs. If you worry about tagging em with all your toys, you can drop some anchors into the cement and lag bolt em down but that's probably overkill in your application. That's right, earn your dream career by watching a few short KZfaq easy lessons while eating chips in your recliner! Seriously Goonz, I think it"s another one of the most interesting builds yet, seems like a few viewers don't hear your statements that the major components have to be shipped out to be rebuilt professionally and that the entire project will be over seen by a certified mechanic. There is even a complete organization to help the homebuilt aircraft community and a Experiment Aircraft Association which also supports homebuilders. Anyways thanks again for letting us look over your shoulder while you rise above the land locked doubters and take to the sky.

Three reasons you rivet aircraft.. 1) Material Thickness. its very difficult to weld thin aluminum. 2) repeatability, To help with the repeatability of rivets there are certain specifications that most rivets used in industry must meet. These standards help ensure that they all form in a similar way with predictable results and predictable strengths. its harder to replicate consistent thin material welds. 3) Inspection. During inspection of rivets the inspector will spot check rivets using a gauge that measures if the “butt” of the rivet has the proper diameter and height The values are pre-determined for the different sizes of rivets..Because welding is a chemical process and has layers that cannot be seen from the surface they can take more intrusive or expensive ways to determine the quality. Meaning it is hard to check welds in the field. And repairs are difficult.
@robb1165
@robb1165 4 жыл бұрын
Many of the aircraft aluminum alloys are not weldable. The weldable alloys usually require heavier assemblies to get the same strength. There are many welded aluminum parts though, like intercoolers and some ducts. I have rarely seen an inspector use a go-no-go gauge. Where I worked they did look at every rivet and with years of experience can see if its correct or not. And they where picky, even to that last rivet buried in a difficult to access place.
