The pistons do not have to go in any order. Yes, you would feel the slop. Another good test is to cover the hole in the bottom of the barrel/block with your finger and see if it pushes air and pulls vacuum when you move the piston in the bore. Usually there is a small hole in the middle of the piston slippers that is used for lubrication, blow air into the back of the piston to make sure that there isn't any junk in there. I rebuilt pumps and motors for a few years and work at a shop now where we do mainly cylinder work. Hit me up if you have questions.

Excellent resource is a man who knows the finer points. I hope Matt is keen to touch base on these parts with you? I'm certain if done proper these things will go for an age. Done with oversights you revisit the same thing repeatedly. As I have witnessed. Great offer and the tip on blowing the shit out of the pistons.

Then you know bench testing the motor is step one to determine the condition of the motor. I have 15 years of experience with equipment and the first step is proper diagnostic testing either in or out of the machine. Ripping apart a motor just because is pointless
@nathaniellarson8
@nathaniellarson8 Жыл бұрын
@@JimsNBHomestead I wouldn't say pointless to not test it beforehand with all the water he found in the system, definitely not ideal though. I will say, the pump is going to be a different beast, that might be a can of worms if he digs into that.

I bought a 2005 john deere 35c excavator that looked like it exploded, some parts here👈some parts there👉 couldn't pass it up for $500. It's not nearly as crusty as this one and only has 2000hrs so these videos give me hope too. I found another motor for $700 and need maybe $400 in fittings and hoses. If I can get a working machine for only 2k that will be a pretty sweet deal.

There may be a lot of your subs who are not in the business but just love watching old iron being revived. I did actually touch a Kubota mini parked in my backyard when the sewer pipe was being replaced. I probably touched an old road grader in the late 40’s working on our gravel road. Keep wrenching!

It is possible to repair that part that the seal surface was messed up on, however the cost may be as much as the new part: Flame spraying is ideal for surfaces like that. It is often used to repair galled surfaces on shafts where bearings rode. I look forward to following your adventures with the excavator as I did with the Cat.

For cutting off stuck collars/inner races i find its better to grid out a semi-circle rather than cut a slot at an angle. Just use the blade in the same plane as the collar and work at it up and down until the material is thin enough to crack. Its much harder to cut a slot at an angle without damaging the part you are keeping, working in the same plane you can get all the way up to any flange, and you can see the crack when it happens.

You have, I my opinion for what its worth, made some good decisions on what to replace in the swing drive. It is a good idea to mark referencing/ witnessing marks on every thing that comes apart for any reason on everything you can, that practice has saved my bacon numerous times over the years, the other rule in hydraulics is keep it clean on reassembly, if you think you you have clean, clean it again, especially when working on spool valves, the ole boy that trained me in/on hydraulics was a clean freak. You are going to have an awesome machine when you get this up and running again, looking forward to this series, thanks for the update.

On that planetary the reason they want you to mark the pins is because they are usually drilled after instal. So the holes will most likely only line up on the pin that was in that particular hole and only in the orientation it was originally in. So marking with a grinder on the housing and the pin before disassembling is a must.

Good thing about bearing is that their strength is also their weakness in that if you put a weld over the width of its border, it cracks. Do that on both outer and inner ring and it comes loose. That's when you can clean everything up, cool the axle (dry ice is nice) and warm (there are bearing warmers out there) the new bearing and it should plop right on. Also, 21:18 - cute robot head you found there.

There shouldn't be any water in there only grease that spring you found is of a previous leak (bottom seal) you should clean all that out with diesel and petrol mix and blow it out with power washer there should be nothing in there only clean grease and make sure you seal it with gasket sealer when refitting the swing box the water can get in through the swivel joint as well check the seal on it its visible from outside the machine its like a rubber boot it keeps out water and dirt. Good luck with it 👍
