Wilbur's dissent into madness is a soul crushing.. He starts out wanting to enjoy the blissful nature of shopping, to indulge in capitalist gains and goals. Wilbur, as we know form previous videos, as a character is disconnected from his emotions. He has the need to feel more powerful than others, likely either because he believes internally he cannot be loved, or because he's afraid of appearing weak. However, he soon finds signs of his capitalist society crumbling early on. People try to scam him, vandalize his buildings, and a communist rebellion lies underground. He believes, at this point in his life, that spending or gaining money can fill the void in his soul, the void he feels from a lack of love, but he it does not. He even said it himself "money is nothing". Although, he does not admit it at this point because he is in denial. Then he meets someone willing to give him love, affection, praise, things Wilbur never thought he would receive. Whether he admits it or not, Wilbur needs this. He needs to feel loved, to feel appreciated, to open up. But unfortunately, opening up has led to Wilbur getting hurt. He discovers this person was a communist. Feeling betrayed, Wilbur kills him and tries desperately to find something to heal his emotional wounds. He tries spending money, but it does not provide satisfaction. He tries getting advice from the advice shop, but he is no longer there. Wilbur ends this episode on a depressing note. Because of his cruel and psychotic actions, because of his need to be feared, because he got hurt the moment he let himself be vulnerable, Wilbur looks upon his dying world, in the rainy night, utterly and entirely, alone.
