Recent Makes - Sew Frugal 24 ✨ The Reveal ✨

Here it is! The 3 things I was able to make up during the #sewfrugal24 challenge. I felt like I was able to really take inspiration from one of my favorite ready to wear brands, Anthropologie, to recreate some really special items and it was all free! I didn't have to buy anything for these makes and if you follow me on Instagram you would have seen these already, but I go into more detail in this video and will better explain the drama 💅 Shout out to Ruan ‪@theyorkshiresewgirl‬ and Sam ‪@Frugalisama‬ for creating such a fun challenge! Ya'll are the best 🤗
First up is the Regular Hoodie by ‪@GloryAllan‬ that I converted into a raglan sleeve by using a tutorial from‪@PatternStudio101‬ The fabric used is a sweatshirt fabric from ‪@MinervaDotCom‬ and just scrap knit pieces from my stash and it may just be one of the best things I've made!
Second is a draft it yourself corset style top from ‪@sparrowrefashion‬ and this was really fun to make! It took a lot of concentration and math but I love a good challenge and I think the result says it all! The fabric used is an upholstery sample I got from a friend that I knew I had to have for some reason and I'm so happy with this piece!
Lastly, is The Flora Blouse by Mood Sewciety and the outcome is something I'm really proud of. I'm not sure how I stuck with it to get to the end but I'm glad I did because this is truly a wonderful blouse. The fabric is also from Mood and it is so lovely.

Absolutely smashed it honey. I love all of them. Why is it that some patterns get us making all the mistakes?! 🙈. So glad you persevered because it’s stunning! Yes please to a sweatshirt tutorial. I can highly recommend the buttonhole chisel tools! Game changer 🎉

I cannot stop laughing! Thank you for sharing your journey with your Disaster Shirt (which looks amazing!!) and explaining your process with your patchwork sweatshirt. All your makes look awesome and you can see your confidence when you wear them. Great job persevering! I would also love to see a tutorial on the patchwork sweatshirt, and I love the armpit gusset -- smart way to cover the whole arm hole!

I am going to save my knit scraps for a hoodie like yours. The last one, I didn't think it would fit like that. From the line drawings, I thought the gathers were down just above the nipple line. I had a rtw top with gathers there, it bunches ackwardly, I donated it. I may look at making that one now that I've seen it on a live person. Great job on all your makes.

It does kind of look like that from the line drawings but I went with the size they said for my measurements (size 12) and I really like the fit...well besides the arm opening🤷

When my sweaters had the hanger bump I would wet my hand and lightly touch the bump until it went back in shape.

What a fantastic sew frugal you've had!! All of your makes have turned out amazing, I particularly love the sweatshirt. Your piecing came out so good! At first glance I actually thought you'd resorted to a printed fabric! I made the love notions laundry day top for my sew frugal - it came out not too bad but it has piecing lines in strange places because I had a nightmare *last* year similar to your floaty top this year. I don't know that it will get worn much but I know for sure I want to make another. I also made a pattern scout Hana dress for sew yellow for endo, and tbh I'm not sure how much wear it will get either lol, the neckline is too high for me (I get sensory issues and I was actually hoping to wear it over another top like a pinafore) - your success with all 3 makes is inspirational!!

All 3 of these are super. The sweatshirt looks incredible, and I love the way the flora floats.....you did so well to keep going! I had a nightmare last yr with a mood swimwear pattern. This yr did a sewfrugal vlog toward the end of the month then made another onil blouse and a Hanbok vest (hand sewn ) too!

That quilt sleeve sweatshirt is excellent! I want to see how you make those excellent sleeves! I do participate in sew frugal. I did the ruffle top in Peppermint Magazine. It has French seams too. I did the same thing as you😆 it happens. I have the flora top pattern, and it’s in my makes list. Thank you for sharing. It looks fabulous!❤

I'm new to watching your channel, and as someone who decided to try sewing last year mainly based on having a hard time finding things with sleeves I'm comfortable in, I related so much to your commentary on that last blouse. I have not yet made anything with sleeves, but I'm going to start trying to make clothes very soon. Cheers 🙂

Wow, you really were challenged by that blouse! Well done for keeping on. It was so worth it, it looks really fabulous on you 🥰 I would have binned the whole thing in your shoes 😂 I don’t think I have ever done a garment with French seams without having to unpick at least one seam. You really have to concentrate which isn’t always the head space I’m occupying in my sewing room 😂. It’s worth doing though, the finish is so satisfying 😊

Kudos to you, you have done such hardwork getting these makes done, gorgeous ❤️ I had a similar problem with a top I was making, it was similar but without being ‘batwing’ style, the armholes were ridiculous (triggering for me also 👍) and I figured out that I was trying to put the piece on upside down 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️, it was a real head scratcher! I think I would have chucked that blouse in the corner and left it there 🤪

Thanks for sharing your trials and triumphs. Love the pieced sleeve sweatshirt, would love to do that sometime. The blouse I had liked when you showed it, so I did get the download, and printed it. Should be easy enough to double check the plackets and the sleeves before I even cut it out, appreciate the heads up on this one. Reminds me of a. 70’s blouse I sewed awhile back, very in right now, and does look great on you. ❤

I too hate pins! I just constantly catch / cut / stub myself on them, and who needs blood on your fabric?! 😢 I’ve been using clips but maybe I’ll give glue a try, thanks for that tip! The hoodie is amazing ❤ love all your makes.

Love the hoodie! Yes, share the sewing process! The corset top is nice, but the front ribbons are too thin. The width of the ribbon compared to the width of the lacing and shoulder straps makes it look unbalanced. I suggest using a much thicker ribbon or the same lacing as the back of the corset. The blouse turned out great! Sorry that the process of making it went so awry.

I actually really like the bias binding across where the two pieces meet. It really looks elegant. Was the slippery fabric hard to sew?

Not as bad as I thought. It has some texture to it so it kind of grips to itself!

Three great makes. I love the quilted sleeves on your hoodie!. Did you stitch the jersey to a base fabric? Thanks for sharing your makes. I didn't participate in so frugal because I find posting to Instagram very confusing and frustrating.

I didn't stitch them to another fabric. I just used a dab of fabric glue to keep them in place right on the sleeve piece and it worked really well!

I cut out 2" squares from scrap knit fabric and then placed them on the sweatshirt fabric in the pattern I liked and then just zigzag stitched them right onto the fabric!

I absolutely LOVE the sweatshirt! I would love to incorporate some quilting into clothing pieces, but I know NOTHING about quilting. Did you take any classes to learn basic quilting techniques or did you just go for it? (I realize in this case you didn't actually do any quilting, but still.)
