Soap & Clay is a family owned business operating in Washington State, but started out online thanks to Mrs. Soap & Clay's kickass brother and his amazing web design skills. The business was started as a tribute to Mrs. Soap & Clay's grandmother, the OG maker in the family that cultivated everyone's love for the DIY life. The studio/retail shop opened in 2017 on 6th Ave in Tacoma, and immediately began teaching soap, bath bomb, lotion, and scrub classes to the makers and maker enthusiasts of the PNW. In 2019, the pottery studio opened as well, making the soap shop a busy place full of artistic energy every minute of the day.
Mrs. Soap & Clay has been featured on Business Spotlight, New Day Northwest, and was awarded a coveted place on the South Sound's 40 under 40 list in 2019, an award given to the most influential business people under the age of 40 each year. She cried when she walked up to the podium to accept the award. A lot.
Drawing from her chemistry background and her maker spirit, Mrs. Soap & Clay infuses her favorite things into her soapy designs and creates products that are fun to see, use, and learn to make. Stick around for this ride - she'll take you on a great one.

I wanted to share some of my cold process shampoo bar experiences with everyone. Where I live there's really hard water, so in order to have the soap rinse cleanly I add extra chelators, citric acid at 3%, sodium phytate at 0.5% and sodium gluconate at 1%. I add them diluted with water after trace. Otherwise, they thicken the batter like crazy. This also works for cleaning soaps too. I live shampoo bars and since I have type 1 hair with scalp issues I'll be giving this a try!

Super love this video 👍🏼❤ been wanting to make cp shampoo bars for so long dunno but read so much negative discouraging opinions about that holds me back. Now definitely will try it. Thank you so much for clarifying this issue. You’re the BEST 😍 upfront no nonsense facts 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼 By the way, I can’t get hemp oil. Is it possible to replace hemp with Neem oil? [ie. Coconut 25%, Palm 25%, Karanja 25% & Neem 25%] I read that Karanja oil is kind of similar to Neem oil. Would combined 50% of both oil be too high a percentage? What do you think?

a question...about soap nuts. Wanting more lather (I'm greedy like that) in my product, I used soap nuts in making your old recipe...when putting the lye into the water infused with soap nuts, it bubbled UUUUPPPPPPPP! I caught it before it boiled over (it had done so once before) I notice when you use yours, it doesn't bubble...is there a trick? Yes, I slowed down and stirred, stirred, stirred to keep it contained, but... what do I need to know about this??? OH, I also made this recipe and my testers LOVE this recipe! And I also made the solid conditioner bar and they loved them, too.
@MrsSoapAndClay
@MrsSoapAndClay Жыл бұрын
Hey! It could be that the water infusion was too potent with the soap nuts, so it’s bubbling like it would in hot water. I tend to actually put the nuts themselves into the lye water solution after I’ve dissolved the lye and while the water is still hot, so it’s extracting the soap nuts while it’s cooling down.
@vernahrris5601
@vernahrris5601 Жыл бұрын
@@MrsSoapAndClay Thank you for replying... it sounds lots safer that way and possibly more extraction of the soapy goodness, too, that's for sure! I am going to make another of your shampoo recipes and I will give it a go...

Hair is such a individuall thing. I cant use soap on my hair, they become like straw with dandruff, at the same time they are kind of oily and it itches. My older son washes his hair with aleppo and he has gorgeous hair, with shampoo he get dandruff. And my youngest needs co-wash because his hair is dry, curly and absorbes pure fat like a sponge 😂

Hello! New to soapmaking and I was trying to put this in to soap calc. For #3 the water category, can you guys help me figure out how to enter that area in? Also, how many oz per lbs of fragrance is standard?
@MrsSoapAndClay
@MrsSoapAndClay Жыл бұрын
Hey! Water is a personal preference in soapmaking - the only amount of water NEEDED is as much water as lye, so 1:1. That will yield a batch that gets thick really fast, though, so I always recommend new soapmakers soap at 2.4x, so the lye amount multiplied by 2.4 to get the water. Scent is based on the IFRA usage amounts, so always double check that. I calculate 5% of oil weight for the fragrance oils I use.
@hope.s9947
