This kid needs a Trooper in his life. He seems adrift in his life.

I feel for that young man, sounds like he has had nothing but a hard way to go throughout his life. He may not realize it but he desperately wants to matter to someone in this world. Gotta give him credit for being respectful and polite. I'm sorry to say this is one of the few times I've been disappointed in a trooper though. He could have been mentoring this young man but it was more important that he complain about his gear being displaced in the car and getting it back in order. He totally missed that this kid is crying (not literally) for a mentor and to matter to someone. I pray that he is able to overcome all the obstacles in his life and make something of himself.

In all the episodes of NST I Have watched Trooper Bass was the first to wear a ball cap I do hope this will straighten this young man out thanks James for another great video

I bet this kid didn't have a chance since the day he was born. I know a couple of men like him it's a tough life. They were minor criminals to survive primarily, with little education, no guidance, broken and dysfunctional families, etc and left alone to find their own way. I am not condoning breaking the law in any way. I know he made a mistake here, but I feel for the guy. I don’t know his criminal history, but he doesn’t seem like the kind to commit major crimes. I do appreciate the kindness that ASP is giving him. There is no reason to make him feel worse about his situation. This kid has been cooperative and compliant. It's not too late to turn your life around.

I want to just say that the demeanor of this ASP Trooper was amazing. His tone while dealing with this young man was on point and in my opinion what this guy needed. When I was a young teen I was in trouble quite a bit and the local Sheriff in my county at that time took me under his wing. Well his and his number two. I am forever grateful to both of them and attribute a lot of my success to them and their actions so long ago. I owe my life to former Sheriff Jack Merritt (RIP) and current Sheriff Jim Arnott and because of them have the upmost respect for law enforcement! Thanks for sharing these James (NST)

So how does he get jobs without an ID? When I was a young child my mother had me fingerprinted in case of an emergency. I've had an ID since I was 15 and have always maintained one. It's really one of the simpler things to do in life.

Good afternoon James. I posted a comment last night about the troopers ball cap. I started with the ASP on the "hill" at 3701 W Roosevelt LR in May 1969 when the now Troops were called districts and District One moved to the old capitol apartments behind the state capitol. The Districts were shortly named Troops and Administration was in the 101 thru 195. I transferred to Troop A with Captain Ernest Beall and later and had the priviledge to work for Captain Eugene Donham. No short sleeves and "Ike" jackets were worn when the troopers wanted to sport them in the winter. They were hand made at Scneider's Law Enforcement and tailors in NLR. Ball caps were not allowed at all. Khaki's without the shoulder strap were the other uniform approved when we were in severe conditions like weather or manhunts. FYI

This video broke my heart for this kid. He obviously had some major family dysfunction going on and was very scared. The Trooper missed a huge opportunity to mentor this young man if not just speaking to him like he was human and not like an animal for which He probably has been spoken too in such a manner his entire life. He was trying to tell the trooper his Father was worthless and not around, his mother wasn’t around his brother stole his identity and from what I could make out the poor kid was living with some poor sick old woman in the hospital and unless he worked he couldn’t eat. Anyone else out there get that out of the backseat convo? And his handcuffs were too tight Trooper from minute 7 on. 🤷‍♀️. Trooper just concerned about his 💩 being slung around in his car. Wonder where the jewelry box came from? Grandma Pat no doubt and the $1000 pocket watch 😮. Oh my! Great video James.
