If anyone thinks about spray foaming their shop, install house wrap before steel goes on so that it can be replaced when needed

I don’t trust spray foam , it’s to easy to have a bad fire . I don’t trust it even with fire retardant , your better off with roll insulation , I used 4 inch roll insulation . And blown in about 6 inches in ceilings, it holds a cool temperature in summers, and nothing has froze even in windy - 20 temps , with no heat in it , but it warms easily and cools easily

I looked at having my shop spray foamed, but could not justify the costs. I stayed expanda foam from cans to make it air tight, then rolled R19 fiberglass in my 2x6 16" on center studding. Then I blew 24" of fiberglass in the attic on top of 4mil plastic as a vapor/corrosin barrier. I then covered all the walls with 4 mil clear plastic using cap nails as staples don't seem to hold well. I can wash vehicles without ever getting the insulation wet, and is added to the air tight construction. I love the ability to keep my shop cold or warm. I did more labor, but saved $3K plus and got a better R value. Nice shop.

I like the video. I'm waiting on materials to be dropped off on our property for a 32x48x12 shop. Haven't had a tree to work under for almost 7 years now. I'll be overwhelmed as the last garage was 24x32x8. I'm excited to say the least. It's a lot of money but will make our lives much more enjoyable. Mostly mine because I work on the vehicles and our home has lacked tremendously on storage. And we can get the toys out of the weather.

Why did you opt for one big door as opposed to two? Are you going to put a railing on your loft space? Or keep it open and use a crane to winch heavy things up there? Why do you have two man-doors two feet apart on the one corner of the building? Super nice shop! Came out great! Only recommendation I have is when you get a fridge get one with a window front so that you and your friends can always see what's available before you open it. Looks so much nicer plus you're not having friends constantly opening & shutting it non-stop to take a peek. ; )

1 big door netted me more wall space than 2 smaller doors. I may build a railing, I need to use the shop a bit and decide on that setup! I have 2 man doors in the corner because I have a fence on that wall so if I'm in my backyard I don't want to walk to the front to go outside.

It's just under 8 foot to the mezzanine. Head space under it was super important and that's how I calculated that. I don't need anything super tall (other than myself) under it. The mezzanine takes up about 10 inches of height (9 inches for 2x10 plus 3/4 thick plywood floor)

That answered my question I just asked. My ceiling is 18 feet i believe. I will measure tomorrow. I was wanting to atill be able to pull any vehicle under if i ever needed to. With so much height, it really is a waste of potential space. You did exactly what I had in my head. I don't have the width you have so will have to maybe go against the back wall with the stairs. Not sure. My shop is 20 x 50. The former owners had a Greyhound bus type of RV (looked like a rock star rv) and they needed the height. I may even be wrong. My ceiling may be 16 feet. @RecklessWrenchGarage
