The Righteous Brothers had a big hit with "Unchained Melody" in 1965. Home Free did such a beautiful rendition of this classic song. The video in prison is very fitting as this song was originally written for the 1955 prison film "Unchained". The film centered on a man who contemplates either escaping from prison to live life on the run or finishing his sentence and returning to his wife & family. The song focuses on someone who pines for a lover he has not seen in a "long, lonely time".

I love this one from Home Free. One of my favorite songs of all time. I don't know why, but I love the moment in the video when Austin is singing, "I hunger for your touch" and there is a shot of Adam Rupp twirling his wedding ring...to me that small moment embodies the longing in the song.

Great homage to the 1955 film Unchained....and a great twist having Tim lead with his soothing bass and ending with Austin's tenor. Their production, vision and vocals are just too notch. There is a reason this have over 100,000 views in just a couple of days...

The song was written by Alex North ( music) and Hy Zaret ( lyrics ) for the 1955 movie "UNCHANGED",before the RIGHTEOUS BROTHERS there was Todd Duncan ( soundtrack) followed by Les Baxter, Al Hibbler and Roy Hamilton also there was Jimmy Young and Liberace.

How great is this again? The whole, just everything together like the lead, the beatboxing, the backgrounds, the harmonies, the picture, the black and white recording, the shadow of Adam on the wall, the story behind the song etcetera makes it perfect for me.

Loved it. They did a tremendous job. Loved Tim and Austin’s parts, loved those harmonies and I loved the video. The black and white was great along with the setting and the typewriter and letters above. So well done. Good reaction Recky.

I went back and listened to the Righteous Brothers' rendition, which also is a cover, and I was actually somewhat disappointed when I heard it after hearing this. It's still awesome, but this supercedes it by far, imho. Fantastic reaction, though, Recky! 🥰🙏

The Righteous Brothers cover was nice and smooth but it lost the loneliness and desperation of the original from the movie Unchained. HF brought it back to its origins which too many people have forgotten. This isn't just a love song.

I went back to hear Bobby Hatfield...it is hard to compare. Bobby had instruments in the background. Tim and Austin had the other members to supply the "instruments". So to me the richness of Home Free beats Bobby. Whenever I go back to the original...something is lacking compared to Home Free's. You can't produce the richness of Home Free with real instruments...just saying.

@@brendagrothier967 For me it's far more than the richness. It's the voices, the waves, the feeling, the soul. Bobby Hatfield had an amazing voice with amazing flexibility and control, but to me both Tim and Austin move me more, and that's what music is all about to me. 🥰🙏

@@carinalindberg7377 to be in a successful acapella group you really need good singing voices because it can't be covered up by real instruments. I've gone back to other covers and was very surprised at the lead singers voices compared to Home Free members. Guess I'm just an ol Home Fry.

The Righteous Brothers did a cover of this song. This was originally performed in a movie called Unchained 1955. Was about a prisoner debating whether to escape or stay and return to his family, Austin Brown did a cover of this song on his own, He did a fantastic job. Recky you should check it out

The most poignant scene in the video that totally captures the emotion of the song was Adam staring at his hands while he played with his wedding ring. I think the perfect sequel would be You've Lost That Loving Feeling with their significant others basically visiting to break up or sending Dear John letters.

Such powerful visuals and a remarkable version of the song ❤️ I know it hearkens back to the mid-century movie and they portray it spectacularly, but I do hate seeing our guys behind bars. 😕 However, they can definitely "emote" through their music/videos better than just about anyone else out there!! ❤️🎼🥰🎶❤️

I love this video and Home Free's rendition of the song; however I still adore Bobby Hatfield of the Righteous Bros. version. I think they're equally good just in different ways. Rather like Angel of the Morning - both Merilee Rush and Juice Newton do wonderful versions of the song in totally different interpretations.

This was great Recky, Home Free rarely misses. I’m with you though, I’m a big Righteous Brothers fan and to me their music is one of a few that will always sound better. Their voices, the sound quality of the records, the overall general feel of their songs and the emotions that they bring out in people, it’s just hard to duplicate today. The music today is too sanitized, it sounds too clean, too perfect. There is a rawness to some older groups that is very difficult to recreate today. 😄

I think The Righteous Brother's version is great but when I heard this version from Home Free it immediately surpassed the original. I'm so glad that we can agree to disagree, right?
