Very interesting, hearses are so personal and public at the same time, I think that is why we're all so intrigued. Thanks again❣️

i owned a 1937 Cadillac hearse that was used in at least 2 films by MGM. The first was Period of Adjustment with Jane Fonda and Tim Hutton and the 2nd was Don't Make Waves with Tony Curtis and Sharon Tate. I got the hearse from a man who drove cars to the sites where they were shooting. Traded my 1941 daily driver Cadillac for it. Took my wife to St Johns Hospital in Santa Monica to have one of my children. Drove it as a daily driver when I lived in Venice Beach. Sold it to a Yacht Building company in Long Beach. Those were really the days...1960's Venice Beach..just as teenager with 2 kids then. Went on to have 8 more. Reside in Thailand now.

Another great vid Kari. I recall President Reagan's long trip to his library. The hearse always represents those final moments and giving dignity to those on their final trip. Keep up the good work.

I sought & bought a 66 cad S&S superior hearse with removable covers with landau irons, black top grey bottom in the 70's. 429 motor, about 6000 pounds, freaked people out! Went 25 miles in 10 minutes, hit 130 mph +, in hi school we had a blast... The Hearseman...

I can remember when hearses were used as ambulances too. I grew up in the country and when someone seen a hearse go by their house they would wait for it to come back by. They would watch to see if the curtains were pull or open on the windows. If closed and they didnt have the light on top turned on the person was deceased. I still remember one coming to pick my grandfather up on Dec 16 1966 like it was yesterday. That brought back memory of that when you mentioned they were used for ambulances also. Ty for sharing . I love all your chats. I usually miss the live chats. But enjoy going back and watching them later.

Thank you so much for sharing Kari :) It's clear to see that you are passionate about what you do. The many videos that you have taken the time and effort to post here on youtube, are a testament of that. For whatever it is worth to you, I hope that when my time comes, that I will have a funeral director that displays the same kindness, and compassion, for grieving families that you do. Much love to you from North Carolina 💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖

They're beautiful vehicles, indeed. The one at our funeral home is a solid white 2004 Cadillac "eureka", black leather interior and only 21,000 miles. It rarely goes "out" because we have our own cemetery surrounding the building. I'd love to drive one of those really old ones sometime! Enjoyable vid, as always!

We're in Martinsburg, West Virginia. Our funeral home was privately owned when established, but now, is owned by SCI. We have about 53 acres currently and have done many "walking processions" using only the church truck. I'm quite astonished that you can't have both in Michigan, that's mind blowing!

Very interesting! I love hearses and the history with them. My moms "funeral coach" was a 2004 Cadillac black with dark blue interior. I'm looking to get more information on her final ride. She passed very unexpectedly 11/03/04. So as you can imagine I was in shock and really didn't pay much attention at the time. But now I am looking in to it. I am looking to by an old hearse and use it for my doggie transport company

Keri I love your videos but as an Historian I need to clarify a few points in this video. JFK was actually transported in 2 different Hearses the white on that you showed took him from Parkland Hospital after he died back to LOVE FIELD in Dallas, Texas. He was put on Air Force 1 and flown back to Washington DC. then another Hearse transported him from Andrews Air Force Base to Bethesda Hospital for his autopsy. then transported him back to the White House. As for Abraham Lincoln he was carried by many different hearses because when he left Washington DC for Springfield the trip took 20 days and he had services in many major cites he passed through and each had their own very decorated hearse to carry his body from the train to the place of viewing for that particular city. so as many as 20 different hearses may have been used! My I suggest a book on this subject that I think you will find fascinating it covers in great detail from the moment he was shot to the moment he was left in the holding vault at Oakland Cemetery? The book is called " 20 Days" by Dorthy & Phillip Meserve-Kundhardt. Many awesome pictures and facts. I think it is the definitive work on the subject with your back ground you will love it! Please keep up the great work and awesome videos. Sorry for this Historical Epistle but Once a Teacher Always a Teacher!

Arguably the most dramatic and Gothically beautiful hearses were the 1955, 1956 and 1957 Cadillac Millers. Also the coolest was the 1963 Plymouth hearse, and a the most stately was the '63 Buick LeSabre hearse.

Back in the early 1990's I was negotiating with a gentleman for his 1966 Lehman Peterson limo that was a retired Navy Admiral's car after he bought it from the government. During our conversations, he mentioned that a local funeral home had 2 1960 Lincoln hearses I have never seen or heard of such a creature, so it must have been a local shop that did the conversion. He said they were in a local scrap yard, basically rusted away to nothing and he never did get to the yard to take pictures or tell me the name of the yard. THAT would have been a great piece of history. I am sorry he was such a jerk. I DID however buy a 1966 LP Limo that was a US Government car (probably the Postmaster General's) and it was white with red leather and the blue mouton carpeting.
