Eh. I mean... Cav is what? The king of being the bridesmaid 35 times but never the bride? So... he's won a bunch of stages in the Tour... over a LONG period of time... but never come even close to winning the race. It's interesting I guess... but not as impressive as winning the whole shebang.
@markmoldaver9450
@markmoldaver9450 2 күн бұрын
@@Big_Island_Boi the announcer was totally exaggerating, calling Cavendish the 'greatest of all time'. He must be a noob to cycling because everyone who really knows the sport would never put Cavendish at the top of the heap in historical terms or for the Tour de France. You're right... Cavendish is a great sprinter and has won more sprints than anyone in the history of the TDF but he has never won The Tour - nor has he ever won the Vuelta or the Giro. Eddy Merckx won all of them several times and he was a great climber and an excellent sprinter. Polyvalence is the only way to win a grand tour. I don't diminish Cavendish's excellence in sprints and on the track but the announcer who is clearly British should stop the exaggerations and using hyperbole instead of the real facts. Congratulations to the greatest sprinter in TDF history, Mark Cavendish !

So I'm not really that educated about Tour de France....so forgive my ignorance here. I get that Cavendish has won the most career stages of all time...but why is that so good when he hasn't won the overall Tour? I'm just struggling to understand that the career stage record he beat was set by Eddie Merckx...who also won 5 Tours. So how can Cavendish be so highly regarded?
@nicolasdenis7094
@nicolasdenis7094 2 күн бұрын
Modern times. In the day of Merckx only few leaders competed for the stage and overall wins, most were domestiques. Nowadays winning a tour stage is much harder. For most pro riders winning 1 stage in the tour is an immediate accomplishment and success of their whole season. Getting 35 is mammoth. Just think about it, Cavendish prime period was before Sagan etc.., yet he is still winning today.
