yes, highest rated by pitchfork- which also gave Lana Del Rey’s ‘Born to Die’ a 5.5 rating back in 2012. we now can all recognize that Born to Die was one of the most influential albums of the last decade. in 2021, pitchfork ‘reassessed’ their score and said they wished they had given it a 7.8 score. olivia got an 8.0 on GUTS… don’t get me wrong, i love olivia and think she’s super talented (and GUTS is a fantastic album!), but i think most people can see that Born to Die is worlds above GUTS. that’s not to say GUTS is bad- it’s to say that Born to Die was an album so genius that it completely changed pop music as a whole. so, i think we can safely say that having the highest rating by so-called ‘music critics’ doesn’t mean a whole lot. however, a lot of these music critics are the same people who vote for the grammy winners, so-in that sense- you are spot on that she has a good chance.

agreed! if the grammys chooses the SOTY winner based on songwriting, then Lana is the obvious choice. lyrically and melodically A&W is an absolute masterpiece- and the grammys would be completely stupid to not see the genius. however, NFR didn’t win album of the year in 2020 (which i would argue was probably the biggest grammy snub of all time), and lana has never won a single grammy, so i don’t have much hope that the grammys will recognize her- unfortunately. hopefully they prove me wrong this year and finally recognize lana for her un-paralleled influence on pop music over the last decade!

true! NFR would’ve (obviously) won for album of the year in 2020 if it didn’t go to the most commercially popular album. billie eilish won over lana that year- and billie is obviously extremely talented- but billie would not exist if lana didn’t come before. IMO, it’s almost disrespectful of the grammys to award billie so much and never give lana anything- knowing full well that lana has a major influence on billie’s music

The Grammy's are not given for what an artist is known for but what the top achievement was during that year. Taylor's songs are good, but every year there's another great entry that beats them all. In English lit courses, they don't study Taylor like they do others.
