Hi Ricky. Another great video with smart info. When I was recording on 4 track cassette back in the 90s I recorded acoustic guitar right up on the sound hole, maybe 8 inches away. I was totally inexperienced and just flew by the seat of my pants back then. You're right on. I had to fight the boom of the low ends when I mixed. At least now I know better techniques. Thanks again man.

Thank you for this excellent video. The hint to control its breathing was very good, I always wondered how professional producers realize that you do not hear breathing while passing quietly. BTW on old jazz recordings sometimes you hear the creaking of the piano stool (e.g. Oscar Peterson with Louis Armstrong); i love it 😉

Oh wow I think I realized my mistake why my take sounds sharp and forward. I misunderstood that I need to aim/angle the capsule to the 12th fret.. when I rewatching this, it should aim on Soundhole, the 12th fret pos. Is the mic placement... I'm gonna try again this weekend.. Tysm!

Yeah that may help! Its all a matter of fidgeting with mic position until you get a tone you like, you can get very bright tones from dark mics and vice versa with mic position alone :)

Hi :) Is the NT1a "better" than the the NT1 for recording acoustic guitar ? I read this somewhere and wonder what your opinion is. Cheers mate !

How would you go about recording acoustic guitar AND vocals at the same time? Or is it best to record separately? Also, assume you only have a dynamic and a condenser microphone.
@jarodrawsthorne8225
@jarodrawsthorne8225 2 ай бұрын
Personally i place the mic directly in front about mid way between your mouth and the sound hole of the guitar, this seems to be a decent mix for what i do which is mostly just demos and catching ideas in this configuration. If your vocals are louder you can bias the mic down a little to pickup more guitar.
@Jakepf
@Jakepf 2 ай бұрын
@@jarodrawsthorne8225 I tried this position and the vocals tended to be drowned out by the guitar, so I adjusted it more upwards. I also tried both mics but honestly without stands it's a nightmare holding for that long.

Hi. Thanks for the video! I currently own an NT1 and an AT2020 and I was wondering if these would pair well in recording guitars or it would be just better to use one mic? My room has a carpet floor and is full of sheets so it's rather quiet
@AudioHaze
@AudioHaze 3 жыл бұрын
I think it’s less about the mic pairing and more about the sound you want. If you want a wide stereo guitar, you could try both mics at the same time. But then, you have to take into account phase issues and proper mic placement. If you want a simpler rig, just do the one mic. BUT you could also do the one mic and double track it to get a stereo field. Lots of options!!

What's the difference between using the fresh air and just using the stock eq? I don't like having plugins that I don't "need" so I'm usually sceptic about one or two knob plugins
@AudioHaze
@AudioHaze 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah fair enough, it's using more than just high shelf, I can't remember everything, but I know it's got some parallel compression algorithm going on. I think it's a great plug in, but as is the case with any "dummy" plug in, it has its issues. Its great at blowing out your mix and adding a ridiculous amount of noise if used too much. Honestly even just a moderate amount.

Hey I was wondering if you could tell me what's going on with Kent Nishimura's (fingerstyle guitarist from Japan) audio. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/nbmYnauDrMzPg4U.html , in his Slow Dancing in a Burning Room arrangement and all of his other arrangements, the audio sounds sweet, full and large. I don't understand how he does that with just one mic "AT4040". IMO, his audio sounds better than people who uses Neumann km 184 stereo pair, for example, Eddie van der Meer , or maybe I just dislike the bright/harsh highs that sound like chipmunks. Roughly, what does he do in his DAW? How does he make it so large?
@AudioHaze
@AudioHaze 3 жыл бұрын
Oh wow this is beautiful. Playing and tone! Well, he's got a pickup in that guitar so he may be blending the signals from the pickup in with the AT4040. On top of that, there seems to maybe be some low end boost to give that "kick" effect. So if you're trying to mimic his tone, I'd start there. Acoustic Pickup + AT4040 off axis from sound hole (maybe like pos. 2 in this vid), then mix in an aux track with a boosted low end. Just a starting point though :)
