Rick gave my band FLICKERSTICK, a copy of this song while he was producing tracks for our album.I fell in love with it and had it on repeat for the whole tour we left his studio to start. It became a sort of mantra that I would listen to before going on stage every night. I lost it after a month and haven't heard it since then. Takes me right back to that time! Awesome song! @@Padlock_Steve late 90s some labels were dropping some rock acts. I know a guy who gets a check from sony every month as a payout from the lawsuit when they dropped his band a ton of other rock acts in the early 2000s because their new leadership was going back to more hip hop and rnb focus and they violated contracts by dropping all the rock acts before the contract was up. Maybe they did beato dirty that way too?

@@MrNEWDY I'm trying to remember such a thing happening with Sony... I know Sony Nashville got a new President around that time and wanted traditional country artist and dropping contemporary country artists. Sony and BMG merged around this time and Arista was going more Urban. Artists get shelved and dropped for any reason but the label retains the master recordings. Usually an artist will get a album deal with maybe six options... The label can release an album and decide not exercise the remaining options. 2000 was a bad time... Napster was making a big dent in sales, Britney and NSYNC were dominating MTV and the charts. I think this track could've done well six or nine years earlier.

Years later I worked at Westlake Recording Studios in L.A. and walked right past him in the hallway and had to do a double take. I think he worked for Avid at the time. It took me a minute to realize who it was as it had probably been 7-8 years since I last saw him. Unfortunately I did not get to say hi and explain who I was. Euphonic Music School , that’s awesome. I played with Sean for several years in a few projects. Sean used to come into my music store back in the late 80’s. Even when he was in his teens he was turning heads and making players envious. I’ve known Sean a long time. When he moved to LA it was a sad day as I knew my chances of playing with or for him anymore were going away too. But I keep in touch with him and talk to him from time to time. He put out a new album with Nate Morton called Poptosis. You should check it out if you haven’t. Really incredible playing. I feel pretty privileged to spend the time I did with Sean. Thanks for the message. You should reach out to him and say hi. Sean’s a good guy all around. 👍

Rick , I was , and consider myself still , in a band that got signed in the mid 90’s . We recorded our first Album / demo on a Tascam 1/4 inch 16 track machine and when the label gave us some money we bought an ADAT system. We told them we will remix and deliver it for mastering. We had a deadline of , I believe, of like 6 weeks , which we met in spite of several hurdles related to syncing things up . I am still amazed at how wonderful the recording sounds due to the painstaking time and effort we put into getting the sounds to tape with the mics we had . About a year after release we were on the road after playing a show in Pittsburgh when our manager , who handled Squeeze before they broke up , called to tell us the indie label we were signed to filed for bankruptcy. He had to wire us money for gas because the Pittsburgh club stiffed us . We did play CBGB on that trip though. Anyway, I tell bands , get the sounds recorded the very best you can . The old adage “ it’s hard to polish dog sh%#!t “

I believe your lack of experience and knowledge at the time coupled with the team you had in that moment played a big part as to why the enthusiasm petered out before the song fully blossomed. "Weird band?" "weird song?" NO, I liked it - the singer sounds a bit like a cross between Brad Delp and Steve Walsh. I like how you recorded the bass, it sounded really good, especially when you added the SansAmp. I also like how you went into detail about how the drums were recorded. At first I thought the snare was a bit lost in the mix, I like a loud, bright snare - think of Alan White on 90125 or Denny Carmassi with Heart. But when you added the overheads/room mikes, that really brought out the snare. Label executives and descision makers don't always make the right decisions and fans miss out. - Thanks for sharing this, Rick and I'm sure I'm not the only person who enjoyed this song.

I think it's great seeing Rick groove to some material from a former band. You can see the memories, emotions brought out by the song, and just see him bond with something from his past. I love it. Now I know what I look like when I go back and listen to some of my earlier recordings that I have done from my early days. At least the ones that I can actually stand to listen to.

Hi Rick Huge fan! You mentioned Billionaire; I loved that 3 song cassette that was in a guitar mag so much and still own it and the CD too. I remember telling everyone that the guitars were amazing and recording was the best! Did not know that was your band. Then you mentioned Orbit...when I lived in Boston, my friend Mark was playing bass with them for a while. A world of coincidences. Thanks and stay well!

It's cool to see Rick getting into and grooving on his own music as much as his hero's! I loved the guitar chords on this, along with a nice active bass part. There is nothing outstanding or unusual about the singer's vocal sound, but with the double tracking some cool harmonies, and especially an interesting melody in relation to the chords, this vocal sounds fantastic! The moodiness, and the slow build is fantastic. It gives you time to appreciate all the details and nuances going by as you hear the same chords repeat over and over. If you create an interesting mood that gets under my skin, I can listen to it over and over for a long time. Bravo young Rick and fellow Billionaires!
