If you want a wide mix, it’s not about using stereo tracks or widening plugins…
It’s about using your panning knobs correctly in your mixes.
In this week’s video, Multi-Platinum mixer IRKO reveals just how he creates wide mixes for his clients.
You’ll discover some sneaky automation tricks you can use for width in your mixes, an easy hack to start getting more stereo separation when mixing, and much more.
You can also check out IRKO’s studio build at: • Video

I really like Irko. I think he's the only dude that can pull off a bow tie and make it cool.

I like your visual approach to teaching audio. Seeing what's happening and why it's happening is way more useful to me, if I need to hear anything, I will hear it when I use my DAW to duplicate what you have demonstrated. Thank you and keep up the good work!

Love Irko, really well presented and I don't even mind not hearing the audio. This is showing you a set of tools to try something different and working out your own mixes is the best way to get a feel for something.

I love Irkos vibe, he's such a posi bobbin. It would be good if these videos had audio examples so we could hear how it's supposed to sound. Good tips either way, I've seen huge improvement in my mixes from practicing simple techniques like this before moving to plugins.

I'm your very recent subscriber. I loved your mic comparisons and I'm going for a Shure SM57. I would love to purchase a condenser mic as well sometime in the future. I tried searching for mic stand comparisons. I couldn't find one on your channel. It would be great if you come up with one of those videos. Just a suggestion/ request. Cheers, and keep going!

Great panning ideas, albeit a little scary when you have to check in mono and instruments are disappearing all over the shop. But definitely food for thought.

I like the way he talks about mixing, but he doesn't play examples which is pretty limiting. I get that there might be licensing issues that prohibit him playing the audio he's talking about, but since what he's discussing is pretty general I think he could do demonstrations easily enough with royalty-free loops

Man when I checks things in mono it’s disappointing but In the video he said he wouldn’t make drastic changes. Sometimes I’m not sure what to do to keep mono compatibility solid. I know it’s not possible for it not to change when you hit mono but I guess I’ll do my best and not feel too discouraged about it. Sometimes narrowing the width of the tracks helps but then I loose that stereo feel. Arggggg lol

One soundexample says more than 1000 words. When you explained the first mix I excitedly ran to get my headphones only to see that it is all about mixing with your eyes not with your ears. No sound no fun.

In real life, without headphones, the 'stereo effect' is lost and sometimes detrimental.
@pete3816
@pete3816 3 жыл бұрын
Pretty big sweeping statement. It entirely depends on the listening environment. Stereo is well maintained in most car systems. Well maintain in dedicated stereo home systems. Well maintained in earbuds and headphones. Well maintained on TV and media systems. Well maintained in cinema rooms. Well maintained in any home studio. I agree that it’s lost in a lot of live gig situations where the engineer chooses to run mono. And it’s lost on a lot of crappy single speaker devices like Alexa, google home etc etc. But if you’re serious about music, most people have at least one environment where the stereo field is well replicated.
