I just got one of these today, I’m absolutely in love with it! I was torn between the 60x and the 120x, didn’t want to spend too much but wanted something better than the 60x. This video brought this specific model to my attention, thank you so much!

I'm picking one up tomorrow open boxed for $150. I'm jacked!! I have a lp60 and it's ok but is super light, only around 6 lbs. and it feels cheap. The LP3 will be a good upgrade. I have to have an automatic and this should be perfect for me. Like you, didn't want to spend the money on a LP120 and I don't like that it's manual. LP3 for the win!!!! Glad you love yours.

Thank you for this video, I ended up buying her this with some speakers and a James Blunt vinyl for Christmas. I'm excited to see where this journey takes us.

@@NashrayT I haven't noticed it personally and I always play my records with the dust cover down. I would confirm the anti-skate matches the counterweight balance (the default recommendation is 2), and I also used a tracking force gauge to confirm the track force, and I haven't noticed any issues. @Record-ology Do you have any ideas?

Nice review. I just saw a review of the same turntable from "the audiophile man" and he spent the whole time putting the table down for being too cheap and making fun of the fact that it has a MM and MC switch in the back saying you'd be crazy to put a moving coil cartridge "worth buying" on it without even testing it. Followed by a bunch of pretentious audiophile jargon. Thank you for showcasing sensible products in a positive light. I would've bought this if I hadn't just upgraded my current table 😭

This is the model I settled on after years of dealing with a cheap all-in-one. At the time there were no reviews on KZfaq. Thanks for posting this. I’ve enjoyed my LP3. Did recently have to do a speed adjustment though.

I also own a LP3. I thought it was perfect, especially for the money. Very nice features, well build and a good sound. But you mentioned it's weak point: Speed. To fast, around 34 rpm, but ok, that varies. BUT also occasional slowing down with wow and flutter of sometimes 0,4! So a somewhat inconsistent motor. Mostly it plays well, but this shouldn't be the case. I read other users had the same problem. What a pity, in all other departments it's a very fine turntable.

Hi everybody! Sorry for my english.... I bought in this week the one of these turntable. I think this turntable is the one of the best choise in the basic level turntables. I'm hungarian, this turntable is here 59.990 forint. It's about 180 euros or 200 dollars. Sound quality is good, but I think when the automation works is a little bit loud for me. Overall, this is a great player in its class. Great video! Thanks for reading!

I got one of these early last year and fell in love with this TT! I went through so many players in the last year or 2 and couldn't find the perfect TT until this beauty. The sound, (even with the standard needle) was exactly the same as I remember from when I was a kid in the 80's.. Dunno what it sounds like with a modern amp but using an old school amp, Realistic SA-1001 is simply stunning.. The Golden sound from the Golden Era has come back from the dead in my household. Although, I do have one downer with this model.. 2 months in, I had a problem with my anti-skate which is the key to the perfect spin. So I decided to return and found myself an older / 2nd hand Pioneer which was my best TT up to date. But as older gems do come to an end I decided to go back to the AT-LP3 in white and yet again, I had another let down with the anti-skate. Faulty.. Was purchased online so sending it back for a replacement which is a bit of a hassle but I'm really hoping third will be a charm!

Enjoying my LP60X but have acquired a ton of old records at thrift and used record stores. Really want a second turntable to hook up to my living room receiver and may step up to this one for the next table. Thanks for the great review. Even two and a half years later this was the best review I could find of the unit. Really happy with the LP60X and with this being basically the same with an improved tone arm and future cartridge options it seems perfect.

Anyone that's thinking about buying a cheapo Crosley or an LP60 should buy this turntable instead. The quality is bang for your buck and it certainly won't damage your records. Having the upgradeable cartridge and adjustable counterweight with anti skate is worth it.

Thank-you very much for such an informative review. I'm considering getting back into vinyl (been collecting CDs since 1985; now have 6,100+ of them), and saw a link to this turntable on Amazon. Your review helped me understand the features of this unit. Thanks again. UPDATE: Guess I'll have to consider this and not the more expensive AT-LP7 model. I see that this model is US$199 on the Amazon U.S. website, but here in India on the local Amazon site, it's US$650! God knows what the more expensive LP7 would go for.

This is a decent turntable; it has a good arm, and the supplied AT91R is good performer. The plinth is pretty solid, and made of a decent plastic. The auto mechanism is, as you say, the same as that used in a bunch of other turntables like this one, and those below it, but it's a good, clean, simple design that just works, and is very quiet in operation. I bought one of these last year to see how it stacked-up; I had to adjust the motor speed slightly as it ran about 1% fast, but now it's solid at 33.3rpm (as measured by RPM iPhone app). I like the sound quality; it's not lacking any detail or presentation in comparison to the Rega RP1, or Project Primary (with acrylic platter) that I can hear, though it's not quite as 'spacious' with it's imaging. I also have the AT-LP120USB which I do like, but I'd take the AT-LP3 in preference as it is an automatic, and the motor/belt drive is quite than the AT-LP120's ever-so very slightly noisy motor! And as with the AT-LP120, this LP3 has a fairly heavy steel plate in the base to add mass and prevent unwanted resonances. It's a very good 'budget' turntable that sounds far better than it should for it's price (£169.00 UK when I bought mine). Glad you like it, and gave it a good, well detailed review.... even if you did twist the belt when you put it back on the motor spindle!! Lol! :-D
@Recordology
@Recordology 4 жыл бұрын
lol I DID twist the belt! Thats funny because that's exactly what I was saying NOT to do! Hahahahaha. BTW the new LP120XUSB has all but eliminated the motor noise. Thanks for your comment!

So, the upshot is they gave an LP60 a real tonearm and a preamp that handles both MM and MC cartridges, and dialed the list price up to $250 (on sale as I write this for $199), but it's still a kinda cheap belt drive. You're completely within range of an LP120 at that price, and the LP120 is a direct drive 'table.

Great video, one critque: Why not route the audio from the turntables/preamps directly into your analog to digital converter rather than setting up a microphone infront of the speakers? This way we can get a better idea what's going on, for instance, how much rumble one turntable has vs. another. Otherwise, we're hearing your speakers through our speakers/headphones and that might add colorations and resonances that obscure what's coming out of these units. Thank you!

The thing that scares me as a beginner is the weight and anti skidding, I just dont want to get this wrong and get a bad sound and not really know it. I see in the video you have it set to 2, is that just the starting point or would you say this is about right for the turntable?

It's weird to me that people hold the LP120 in such high regard. I've owned two of them (a replacement after I assumed the first must have been defective) and have spent a lot of time with a third at a good friend's house, and they are among the worst sounding, most cheaply built turntables I've ever encountered. I actually think that the LP60 is a much better record player than the 120, and that this new unit is a *way* more sensible upgrade.

bought these with my first turntable, an lp60, 3 years ago. Even though I quickly moved on to better gear, I still got plenty of use out of them. A friend of mine came over who is a noise artist with the synths and pedals and stuff. He just fed the signal to these and it was surprising how much sound they can put out. a disgruntled ex roommate took them when he left. I just ordered a second pair for around 60$. I’m thinking of getting either this, AT-LP120X (people’s choice obviously) or a less popular option TEAC TN-400BT. What would you recommend me to choose, upgrade ability-wise and sound quality-wise? Thanks!

LP3 and LP120 are equals sound wise - just depends on whether or not you need 78rpm or auto....

Good review! Not bad for $200, but the MC option on the built-in preamp is hilarious. Who the hell would install a $1,000+ cartridge on this turntable? 😂

The cheap looking Chinese fixed output cable, looks a bummer. Also, can the stylus be upgraded without going to the hassle of changing the cartridge? Does the arm return to the rest position automatically at the end of the record, as with the LP60?

Great review! Thanks. I want to bu it but I have a question. I have a Denon 4300H amp which has a phono connection. The problem is that I have to put the player about 1.5-2 meters away from the receiver. Can I extend the cables that comes with it? Many Thanks!

Hi. Great review. I bought one of these last week, but I am hearing distortion when playing vinyls. Could it be the cartridge that needs adjusting or perhaps the calibration?
@Recordology

Could the MC/MM switch be in the wrong position perhaps? Needs to be in MM position.

Wow. Your vinyl sounds so clean. Nice job on the LP3. Is the conical stylus an issue? Also I've heard that this model suffers from speed fluctuations? Maybe I should buy the LP-120 instead?

I have heard that from a couple of people - mine seems fine. I actually like the conical stylus so for me it works very well. Thank you for your comment!

I have a question that maybe you can help me with. I've had this unit for a few months, and it still plays and sounds really nice, but yesterday I noticed a faint burning rubber or plastic smell. Any idea what that might be? I have the same platter mat as you, so it's not a rubber platter mat. And the smell is only noticeable if I bring my nose close to the platter. But IDK what it might be. Any ideas?

@Record-ology Hi, would you explain what characteristics are this LP3 actually sounds like compared to the LP60xBT? Cause I have this LP3 and it sounds muffled compared to the LP60xBT.. lack detailed and lack clarity. My friends had the LP60xBT and it sounds even much detailed and clearer and brighter than Spotify (digital music streaming), but mine (the LP3) sounds worse than spotify.. Thanks a lot before!🙏

@@Recordology sorry to bug but I have one more question. I'm moving up from a Crosley Cruiser, which I've enjoyed lol, so which one would be a good turntable to move to, the LP3 or the 120? Thanks again.
@CorvetteCoonass
@CorvetteCoonass 3 жыл бұрын
@@cpmarti83 it honestly depends on what you want out of the turntable. LP120s are great because they're fully manual, but unless you know what you're doing when setting it up and running it, it can be a hassle. The LP3 has the future proofing like an LP120 but it's easier to operate and less hassle to setup.
