I think the reason why it's so quiet, is the internal amp was meant to be used with a ceramic cartridge, not magnetic. And it just doesn't have enough gain for the lower output of magnetic cartridges. It's probably the same amp in a Cruiser, which usually do have ceramic cartridges.

I find it weird that crosely makes cheap record players, but they also make quite good quality record players with like a good stylus!

I'm not surprised that they sealed the speaker enclosures with glue. This things are manufactured to a price point and are not really intended to be repaired if they break or quit working. Without that requirement, it is faster and probably cheaper to manufacture using wood glue or hot snot instead of screws. The only reason the plinth isn't glued in is because you need access to the motor to adjust the speed. Almost guaranteed they use the same speakers as a Cruiser; the sealed enclosure does help improve the bass slightly. I do have an 'upscale' Crosley from about 10 years ago, it was known as the "Keepsake' and has better speakers, an actual magnetic cartridge, and a semi-auto mechanism with a full-sized platter. It's a bit larger and heavier than a Cruiser, and I believe when new it was roughly double the price.

What you really want are a couple of hinged angled reflectors attached to the back of the cabinet so you can open therm out and get the sound to project towards the front on each side. By hinging them you can press them closed against the speaker grilles when the unit isn't being used. Just a thought.

I have one that doesn’t suffer any of the problems yours does. Fit & finish is as good as a Crosley gets and the audio is fine.

Maybe a blanket or a sheet when you take the c clip off would be a good idea. I was removing a c clip and it fell onto my grey carpet. I didn't find it. I think it would be the same on a granite countertop.

That's the most retro looking turntable Crosley ever made. All that's missing is the polyester.

0:50 When I think of "Nomad", I think of that destructive robot probe thingy from the classic 'Star Trek' episode 'The Changeling' the wreaked havoc on the U.S.S. Enterprise before Captain Kirk eventually convinced it to self-destruct while having it beamed off the ship in a nick of time. :)

Those Crosley are so poorly made-but are so expensive to buy !! I am very thankful,I never bought one !! I have an Audio Technical LP 120 instead-which is a very good modern-made usb turntable-even the LP 60 knocks spots off those Crosley !! And not that much cheaper than an LP 60 !! Very very glad I never bought one !!
