I was told by a friend who had the same surgery and she told me that you have to retrain your bladder. she used one of those groggy thing for handicapped people to pick things up from the floor and a kindergarten chair as well.

Hi! My name is Jen. I am just finishing my portfolio for my Masters in Educational Administration. I graduate in May. I currently teach second grade. (This is hard being away from my class but needed to be done now!) I am so happy I came across you videos. I am 13 days post surgery. Had rectocele, cystocele and peripheral rebuild/repair. It is HARD to stay down and do nothing. I will start to feel really good, get up and move around, and then I feel like the swelling comes on, I am in pain and I end up having to stay down the whole next day. I was going to go back to school after three weeks off but doctor has said I need to take longer. The plan is to take four weeks, go back for four days and then it will be spring break with ten days off. When the time I go back full time, it will have been 6 weeks. I hope that’s enough. I am 46 years old. My kids are grown, thank goodness. I can’t imagine having little ones and going through this. You are a rockstar!! Thank you for all of the honesty and encouragement. I was starting to feel a little depressed being house bound and unable to do much. Your video has given me much hope. Thank you!! And thank you for your dedication to our future through your leadership and guidance in education.

I am 10 days post op rectecele, hysterectomy, bladder repair and vaginal vault repair. I had 1 complication which was uti so I ended back in er with a morphine drip and antibiotic other than that the bladder pain is gone its my butt that is bad and my bowel movements are slow and painful. Are you having the same issues?

I’ll have something done to my bladder and maybe an hysterectomy, I’m older 79 I hope is not too bad, the specialist told me she will try to do the less she can for my age 🤞🏼🙏🏽

I completely agree with this gaslighting. I studied for a year before getting a hysterectomy. Nothing prepared me for the aftermath. I had no help with how to get through it from doctors on what is normal and what is not. Doctors ignored and diminished my questions. My husband is screaming at me about simple requests for things I need to survive. All my friends and family disappeared a long time ago. I am at week 8 with still no help or guidance other than rest. I was supposed to be ok at 6 weeks mark. There is now silence from everyone. I have constantly tried to advocate for myself.

It’s really hard when you feel like you have no help. My hubby was great at first, but wanted me to bounce back way quicker than my body wanted to. Keep advocating for yourself with doctors if things don’t feel right!

I’m so sorry this is happening to you. If I were your friend, I would be there to help you. I will say a prayer for you. The medical world is becoming filled with very callous people. It makes me not ever ever want to have surgery or go to hospital again? COCID made things worse also. The good nurses and doctors were treated so horribly that most of them are been fired or left. It’s just horrendous.

I am so sorry u had to go thru such a difficult time due to the medical community thinking we don't know our body and how we are feeling. In your professional position you are probably very educated and don't cry wolf.Another positive for you and your statements to them. Was advised some years ago to walk 10 min. every hour after some female surgery. Was able to do so. Having surgery again in 2023 at age 82/83, Dreading this time. Antibiotics can cause C diff. Look it up ,it is ugly.Been there twice. Take probiotics at the same time. Most Doctors don't mention this. Wishing you all the best. My heart is aching for you. Grandma/Great Grandma H.❤️

Charlene, Thank you for your kind words. I do feel that medical advocacy is so important, and this surgery only solidified that for me. I’m sorry you are facing another surgery, and I understand the concern for c-diff. I highly suggest that you start taking a strong dose of probiotic asap, and continue to take it after the surgery for at least a few weeks. This will help your body build its gut microbiome back up, in hopes of preventing it. I’ve heard from several women that female surgery was easier on them at an older age, as some nerve endings down there have started pruning (dying), so perhaps that will prevent some pain for you. Good luck and feel free to email me if you have any questions at personalprolapsestory@gmail.com.

I believe that there should be a number to a nurse that we can call who can answer our questions regarding post surgery. It would really put a lot of us at ease and avoid unnecessary stress. Having surgery is very scary to me even though I had about 3 different ones and this would really lessen the stress and put us at ease, or at least give us a sheet of what to expect and things that are not normal.

I’m 4 weeks out of my full prolapse surgery. The whole shabang done Bladder, colon, vaginal lift and repair using human mesh cadaver tissue. My surgery went well but my recovery has had some challenges. I’m having to self catheterize my bladder is not recognizing the sensation to fully release. I can only get out at most 100mL on my own when my bladder holds about 400ml. Unfortunately I cannot stop catheterizing until I can reach 200 mL without using a catheter. I’m really hoping that when I start my physical therapy after the 6 weeks that all that will be fixed. Thank you for sharing your story.

I’m so sorry you’re struggling with this. I have heard from many women who have had the same issues. As much as I hated having the suprapubic catheter, I am almost thankful for it, because I can’t imagine having to self-cath. I hope that these issues resolve quickly and that you get full relief soon. I do highly suggest pelvic floor physical therapy after any surgery like this. It helped me immensely with some lingering urinary urge incontinence issues. I’m sure it could help with yours as well.

I am seven days into surgery. I’m not sure exactly what your sling is made of. I don’t think I have a sling. My doctor sutured me to the sacral ligaments without using a mesh I had hysterectomy, cystocele, rectocele, and perineum repair. I am supposed to go back to work after three weeks I am a hygienist. I do have to lift a lead shield which is between 10 and 15 pounds when I take x-rays it is a bit physical I would say 50% because I am sitting cleaning teeth but then when I have to take the x-rays, I have to lift the lead shield and run back-and-forth into the room, not sure if I should take another week or two I am so sorry for everything you went through my gosh you are strong girl stronger than you know I hope I didn’t make a mistake but I had stage four prolapse of my uterus and couldn’t take it anymore

Omg, Everything you said I can relate to 100%, I had surgery on the 4th of September & my incontinence is so much worse, I have to wear 3 super pads daily & every step I feel myself leaking & it's so embarrassing, I havnt talked to my surgeon yet & I thought they would check on me but nope, anyway Thank You!!

Oh no! Mine wasn’t that bad at all. I just had urge incontinence near water. It improved within a few months. I would definitely talk to your surgeon. I’d also look into pelvic floor physical therapy. I still need to do that, and can tell when I don’t keep the muscles down there relaxed. The more they spasm, the more I have urinary urges.

@@personalprolapsestory Unfortunately where I am from there’s really no physiotherapist for pelvic floor. I would have to go into Jersey or Brooklyn but when I was doing PT before the hysterectomy, basically 90% of the poses were all yoga poses. Don’t know if that will help. I’m now 6 weeks po and notice still have slight incontinence when I cough

I’m glad you found my channel and are finding it helpful! One day at a time! You’ll eventually get to a place where you’ll forget you even had it done. I don’t drink much caffeine, but I have read that it can have an effect on urinary urgency. Probably good to cut it out for now. Once those symptoms calm down (and they will), you can bring it back. 🙂

I just wanted to thank you for making this video. I’m glad I came across you. I’m 65-year-old grandma and I’m suffering from my prolapse for quite a few years now and it’s getting worse and I’ve been now going to do PT but if that doesn’t work, I’m considering surgery. I have a appointment with a Urology-gynecologist in May. I am really afraid to do it and I don’t trust the medical world at all and hearing your story. I’m praying that you get better. You’re so young. I don’t know what I’m going to do. I’ll pray a lot but I pee all day long. It’s awful. The doctor said it’s because I had three large babies naturally. Oh boy. What us women go through huh?? Thanks again. Btw, I use the test strips and I had a horrible UTI and I took a picture of the positive test trip because I didn’t trust the doctors office. The nurse was horrible to me and I showed her the picture of the UTI strep test trip. She said we don’t go by that we have to send it out and she was real snotty. Sure enough , the test trip was right. I had a UTI. You’re right we have to be our own advocate and take our health into our hands. I hope you find total recovery from this surgery. Please keep us updated. Thank you.

Stacey, I don’t regret the surgery at all, BUT I do have concerns about you going back to work (especially that kind of work) in one week. 😞 I went back after 3, and my job wasn’t even very physical, but it was too soon. I guess it depends how your procedure is done, but I’d talk to your doctor. That’s way too soon in my opinion. You’ll be so sore, and possible undo some of the repairs you have done.

@Personal Prolapse Story I'm 3 weeks post op. Can you believe I went to the dr today to check and see if I have a uti and they only took my urine with a cath. I felt like vomiting right on the table as soon as she was done I didn't even wait for her to leave I put my cloths on and left. I felt so sick it gave me a panick attack. I came home and I have so much pain from that cath. Now I am waiting on the results from that. This will be the second uti since my procedure (if positive which at home test said I was).I have never had a uti prior to this surgery. I was rewatching your video to see if you were having same issues. This is a long recovery I feel depressed and can't wait for it to be over. I am dealing with the same as far as support from my drs office they just seem to put my symptoms off.

@@melcoffgarcia5489 sadly, UTIs and cathing to check for them are very common after this type of surgery. I know it is no fun, but it is the best way to ensure a clean sample of urine. Too many UTIs can signal other issues, so they need to be sure. Cathing always makes me sore for a few days too. Get the unsweetened cranberry juice at a grocery store. It’s SO sour, but really helps with preventing more UTIs.
