I'm a 16yr survivor, very low cancer, APR and naturally left with a permanent bag. Fortunate to dodge the chemo and radiation bullets and cured by surgery alone. Life is not over when you have a colostomy. In fact there are advantages if you travel or go camping a lot. Honestly, no one can tell you have one, unless you tell them (which I do because it helps reduce the stigma attached to it) For anyone facing APR surgery, there are many FB groups full of wonderful folk who can help you as you adjust to your new plumbing.

I am in the early stages of my Colon cancer treatment and i found this video so informative to me I accept their are so many variables in the treatments and outcomes but the more I know the happier I feel, weather it be the mildest form of treatment or the most aggressive of treatments. I guess it just helps my inquisitive mind process all of this important information. Many thanks for posting this informative video!

Dr Sands certainly inspires a lot of confidence. I had Stage 3C recto sigmoid cancer. It affected the upper portion of my rectum and my sigmoid colon. I had 4 months of FOLFOX chemo (scheduled for 6 months but my blood counts were not good and peripheral neuropathy was getting significant), 6 weeks of chemo radiation and then a LAR surgery with a temporary ileostomy. I’ve done well but the surgery can result in some long term bowel difficulties. It’s been 15 months since my ostomy was reversed and I still have many bowel movements during the day and I frequently have the urge to go and I must get to a toilet quickly as my ability to control the bowel movement is minimal. Also I have what I’m calling permanent neuropathy in my feet and finger tips from the FOLFOX treatment. But I’m doing well otherwise with no signs of tumors in the 2 CT’s I’ve had since treatments ended. It’s critical to find an expert surgeon. And if possible at an academic medical center. Preferably a facility that has an NCI (National Caner Institute) designation.

I had rectal cancer and I had my chemo and my radiation and I was 72 at the time and they did a colonoscopy they put in a stoma and I still hate it I don't go out I was told one by one doctor before they did the thing that I should be able to get it reversed because of after the first round of chemo and radiation there was no tumors left. I've had three CAT scan and when they are clear my oncologist said why don't I just get it redone well I don't know where to go to get it redone and my son says it can't be redone but then I was told that it shouldn't have been that radical does anybody have any answers for me thank you
