Lesson for any RTS game designer: do not make a siege unit that has instant hit check, 100% accuracy, and AoE. It is literally impossible to balance. You can nerf the single unit as much as you want, but once they reach a critical mass they are impossible to counter. Same reason the wave-force artillery in RA3 makes the V4 and Athena cannon laughably bad, but at least RA3 has such a broken economy system it's impossible to spam it.

I generally only ever used these for base attacks. Tank verses tank I don't see as a fair test as their weapon beam bounces quite a bit and can wipe an enemy force out fast. But then, I would also send them in with some normal tanks ahead of them to draw fire. Great video as always.

I'd always wait until my opponent's Miner was inside their base. You can target that with Prism tanks and just let the richochet destroy everything around it without having to re-aim.

The "destruction races" were unfair for the Prism Tank, but I don't think there's a good way to control the scenario unless you have an online friend help you out. The Prism Tank had an unfair disadvantage because the "split beam" damage didn't want to target your other targets. Had these units have been enemy units, the Prism tank would have had a better chance (but still not much of one).

Chrono+ic on prisms in team games is deadly thing for sure

Prism Tank>Magnetron>V3 Rocket launcher. Prism Tank is the best because it murders infantry, light vehicles, and structures. Magnetron is next because with proper juggling technique no tank division can touch them. However, light vehicles can still overwhelm them, they take too long to destroy buildings, and are defenseless against fodder. V3 Rocket Launcher is last. They are only good against buildings, and only buildings without an anti-air attack.

The only unit besides IFV I will ever build during the yuri and vanilla campaign whenever I have the chance. IFV + Prism Tank = easy win. Even psychic dominator cannot counter them once massed. Pretty much only nukes can counter them effectively besides air units.

10:39 I always believe that in RA2 structures were shit, cause, 1 unit well used can destroy half of a base with any effort. In RA1 at least you can counter attack or move your troops to defend... Now, 1 Prism can destroy your entire base and you dont even notice... Too OVERPOWERED Unit

Intensifying light trajectory!

I remember playing RA1 and how different the 2 factions were. If you wanted heavy high-tech units and the most powerful defensive structures, air superiority, active calldowns like paratroopers or bombs and nukes you picked soviet. They were all about snowballing and brute force. If you wanted a greater variety of utility units, cheap, mobile and easy re-max army construction, global radar and superior naval power you picked allies. Allies were flexible, fast and had incredibly powerful utility to make up for their lack of raw power. I feel like they progressively removed the asymmetric differences between the factions in RA2 with the introduction of vehicles like mirage and prism for allies and lightweight additions to the soviets. And in RA3 its a complete joke, base construction is the element that differentiates most in that game, only the empire actually feels kinda different in army comp and playstyle. I really miss the playstyle differences between the factions. I'm not saying that they don't exist, but they feel much weaker than previously and in comparison to the contemporary starcraft series.

Pretty interesting (and sad) that the Magnetron deals less DPS to buildings than the Tesla Tank.

I used to build 5 mirage tanks, 5 prism tanks and 5 ifvs to counter literally everything the AI throws at me.

This is using some balance mod (CNCnet?) because prism fully promoted doesn't have the double bounce attack.

The strength of the prism tanks is its range and that the beam gets reflected to nearby tanks. In your tests the rival tanks are actually the same team and not grouped. So if you wanna test their strength make 10 vs 10 with different teams starting from big range. In ideal situations you fight on tight spots with some normal tanks in front so enemies cant get near your prisms

The guy in the video is definitely not using these tanks right in that last part. You pull them back and let the enemy come wheeling up to you. Ranked up prism tanks out-range nearly anything on the ground and you should use that to your advantage. Back up and let each tank come to you and it will be blasted to pieces before it can even shoot. Those 5 tanks should have been able to handle pretty much that whole base if they were used properly. Rank them up on weak stuff like generators, coils, bunkers and infantry and pull them back and when they're all rank 3... just slowly inch them up and pick off buildings one by one.

I remember back when I sucked and didn't no shit about this game, I was like oh cool Mirage and Prism tanks they cost much they must be good So I spammed like at least 9 of each with more incoming But then enemy computer nuked my base and I was like wut my army isn't done yet After like 5 seconds thinking through life I was like screw it just use these tanks tho I expect grim failures But no, I wiped the computer .-. Turns out these two tanks in mass, were a bit op.

My favorite tank, one autentic beast. Even with the first promotion the fire cadency is awesome, with the last promotion and more than one unit (and a good use of the CHRONOSPHERE of course) can erase a enemy base without problems.

u forgot that prism tank have AoE dmg around the main target. well not AoE actually the laser love to hit anything around the main target. so an elite prism tank with large number of them can easily destroy a horde of slow moving tanks even the apocalypse not to mention they also effective against infantry (even commandos unit such as Tanya, Boris, Yuri will die first before doing anything to them) and building and can still hit enemy at close range with 100% accuracy and instant hit. making them the most OP Ground Siege unit.

that's why I just send 10 prism tanks to an enemy base and focus fire on heavy armored tanks. rest doesn't matter, lights bounce off infantry that tries to come. The weakness of prism tanks is nulled if you make many of them. As for anti air... just a few IFV, that's it. OP tank... too much damage. On the other hand yuri's magnetron has such a smaller range and almost no damage in comparison. Weak as fuck. Russians V3 is way more balanced. Proper siege unit... slow, long range, can be countered with anti air, takes time to destroy buildings. A siege unit shouldn't be able to be a glass cannon as well

And that is the problem with allies or soviet armies, they only have one thing that each unit does well, allies focus on range and precision, soviets only focus on armour and firepower, as a result neither of them is very good against Yuri. Things like prism tanks can't actually defend themselves, it is only when the allies seige the opponents prism tank can really shine by destroying the buildings. Soviet similarly can't dominate in the battle when mind control is in question.

Prism tank is surely a terror in RA2.That too,when elite upgraded in groups,it is out of question.I had always a feeling that the Soviet side is always given the less power,even though their units appear to be more powerful.They are mostly slow moving with slow attacks.That makes them useless to manoeuvre in a serious game inspite of their high armour, resistance and fire power.I bet there are more allied side fans rather than soviet side.Because,the allied side is more convenient.They have units like GIs,Guardian GIs,Tanya,Navy seals,Chrono legionnaires and notably spies who are not available to the soviet guys,who can filthily invade almost any structure upgrading their unitsor acquiring any new technology by infiltrating any technical lab,or obtaining stolen cash from ore refineries,sabotaging the power plants or resetting the time of super weapons.These units and their qualities make them have an upper hand over the soviet.It always sound to me like a fight between a lion and elephant.The might and size of elephant becomes useless before the speed and manoeuvreability of a lion.The rays of prism tanks cannot be countered like the V3 missiles launched by the V3 rocket launchers by a few AA units.The cammoflague technique of mirage tank makes it more powerful when attacking a group of unaware apocalypse tanks.The battle fortress can crush any tanks including the mighty apocalypse tanks.Also,when coming to air units,the soviets have only the Kirov airship and siege copter ,whereas the allied have the fast moving rocketeers,harriers or black eagles and transport helicopters.Apart from that,the Kirov attack is announced from time to time,like the announcement of a passenger flight or traun coming to a certain bay or platform to the passengers as " KIROV REPORTING".Originally,the high armour of kirov renders it useless by its speed,as it can be traced miles away and can be shot down by a group of rocketeers,Guardian GIs,IFVs or battle fortresses loaded with GGIs or a single Aegis Cruiser in a naval map.Please hit like or comment if anybody feel the same.
