So, I've been thinking about the concept of "Auto Bed Leveling" (personally I don't like the term leveling - more on that later), because I think the new version of firmware I'm running does not have the mesh centered on my bed. Anyway, as I have been studying my Ender 3 S1 Pro performing ABL operatios, I noticed that I think it would make more sense to have the probe on the opposite side of the tool head than the same side as the home switch. If the probe were on the far side of the tool head, the probe could reach more of the bed. On my Ender 3 the tool head would reach the extreme limit of the gantry before the probe reaches the far edge of the bed. I realize in some cases if the probe were on the other side of the tool head on some machines it may hang over the bed while the tool head is parked, but I think that would be rare. It would probably cause less loss on bed probing capabilities than having the probe on the same side as the home switch too. Terminology: The process called leveling is more in line with squaring or tramming the bed to the tool head. A 3D printer would work just fine if the bed were not level. In face I have seen a few videos of print farms where the printers are setup on a slight slant to aid in auto ejection of the models. My 2c.
