At the beginning of the 20th century, Red-billed Oxpeckers around the Kwandwe area became locally extinct, largely due to the arsenic-based dips that were used on the livestock. In the mid 1990s, a few individual birds were reintroduced and now the population is thriving - definitely a conservation victory worth celebrating! The increased numbers of their hosts such as rhino, buffalo and giraffe has been a vital part of their successful reintroduction.
