I played footy in Mary-K in 1982 for Saints. It was a normal town back in those days, but closed not long after that. Maybe a few years later. I was only 11 years old and still remember it was so windy you'd kick the ball and it would nearly fly back over your own head.

Wow..been watching you vids and following your Facebook, stories for a while and its good to see a some one staying in caravan parks and not always free camping like other KZfaq family/ couples I follow. It is good to see that you are putting money back into towns and promoting family businesses, etc. Keep up the good work. We are going that way once we leave WA, thru NT and then to Cairns.

Thanks Lee-Ann that’s great to hear. We love our free camping as much as the next caravanner but not everyone can do that with their setups so it’s important to show the flip side too. Plus supporting Aussie towns, families, businesses... we’d be crazy not to 🇦🇺🇦🇺

Another excellent vid. We stayed at Mary Kathleen in 2017 in our van, end of 17th street. It was amazing to walk the town and find the swimming pool, the church slabs, etc. lots of history, artifacts and town newsletters in Cloncurry of Mary Kathleen

I commend you on showing us these parts of this great country in the middle of the hot season. Not many would travel at this time but one thing that’s a positive , you would not have to worry about crowds. That’s a good thing. 😉🍺

I was in Mt Isa in 82-85 and Mary Kathleen was a functioning town in 82 and in 84 was sold and bulldozed to the ground. Careful because it is still radio active in the area and the mine bam glows at night.

Oh really, that would be quite a sight to see the glowing!! We were told not to enter the water for that reason. Hopefully our visit was short enough that there was no effect ☺️

'Clonker's' is one of our fave country towns. We always stay at the same park for a few days, the we go to Corella Dam to free camp right on the edge of the water. Heaps of big Redclaw in the dam too. Rippa video as usual. Your certainly beating all the hoards of caravanners that swarm out that way in the winter months.

We used to head out to Wee McGregor mine regularly and also swim at fountain springs in the waterhole. That was in 1983 and -84. We would also go from both sides of the tunnel.

Mary K mine had its own town. If you cross the highways you’ll find lady Jenny mine and fountain springs water falls too

A friend of ours bought a house and had it transported to Mt Isa and still live in it today. We went there in 84 for a drive and we were parked in the main square and a bulldozer drove out of a building. They were still demolishing at that stage.

When I lived in the Isa, used to go down to Mary K all the time. Have photos of when the auctions were held in the town to auction everything off. My mate used to work in the Medleys Supermarket in Mary K :) Went back there 5 years ago, was so sad to see it as a ghost town

That must be such a surreal experience to see it all gone after seeing the other side of things when it was a busy and bustling town. I just don’t understand why they moved it all out, it looks like it was well established, why pick it up? It doesn’t make sense does it. Thanks for sharing your experience ☺️☺️

@@BigOzExplorers I could be wrong here but if my memory serves me correctly, that was the conditions of the mining company having the land. The land had to be restored back to how it was with no traces. Of course they can't hide the open cut but I was actually surprised to see the tiling from the houses as I thought that was supposed to have been all gone. Did you see one of the Mary K houses at the Cloncurry Info Centre? I picked it as soon as I saw it :)

We use epidemic sound for all of our music, it’s a paid subscription for royalty free music. They have some really good stuff 🤙🏻🤙🏻

Correla dam,Mary k's water supply is a great spot. Outback starts to heat up around end Sept, areas are far hotter than stated for town areas. First summer is always the baptism of reality. You didn't know about moondarra ..did you guy's set off without researching? However you would have enjoyed it immensely. The camera work brings out the stunning colours of the outback.🍺🍺

We have experienced extreme heat before but living in it while in a caravan was next level for sure! 🥵 Welcome to the outback lol We do our research before we get to a town and did find it in our research but most places of interest come up in other KZfaq videos before we’ve found it researching, I was surprised we didn’t see someone else promoting Moondarra yet that’s all!

PS - when you were in Cloncurry I believe that was the first weekend that the water park and pool refurb had finished and it wasn’t officially opened / commissioned 👍

If you come further south to the outer east of Perth. Swan View Tunnel, it is located in the Swan Valley. It may or may not be haunted 👻👻

Yes we did! In the lead up and during the wet, was very different to our first visit but so worth it, there is lots of things you see that are not there in the dry 🙌🏻

@@ouradventerousdays lots of waterfalls not so much swimming holes due to crocs etc 🐊 roads open and close regularly so you just have to pick your timing! The rain isn’t constant, it’s like a 30-45min storm and then it’s dry all day again (unless you have a monsoon for a couple of days) but then back to the short storms again. Most things are still accessible 😁

Hi you guys and kids I started in Mt isa 1983 and Mary kathleen was closed. You could buy a 4 bed room house for $ 10000 with everything in side .

Hhmm, probably stretched the empty town a bit, nice you pumped Cloncurry, but let your vids do a bit more. Just seemed a little shallow, I've spent $5g on lithium setup, so need a bit more encouragement to stop in a CP. Didn't show much of shopping and repair/servicing facilities which every traveller pumping out the ks needs. if your pumping the town, more drone would've helped. Get into that mineshaft you wimps, nothing like a scared bat hairdo. Should've done it for us. Hope your enjoying a bit of outback heat.

You can still go to the CP and have no power and water which is low cost and supports them whilst still utilising your lithium setup. And if you don’t choose to stay in the town you can always get fuel, a carton, food shopping on your way through which all helps too and free camp elsewhere. Free camping is still a big part of caravanning for a lot of us! Thanks for watching, catch you next week ☺️🤙🏻
