Even if the instruments are so different, this does at times sound A LOT like a blues-y lap guitar.

If you like this, check out Zhaoze, a post-rock band from China that use a guqin. I'd say the Guqin is most similar to a cello or violin (from a Western point of view), especially since the guy using it uses a cello bow at times.
