The actor playing Capt. Hollister was the Commander of "Hadleys Hope"..the colonist base in the movie "ALIENS"..and he's wearing pretty much the same uniform.

Series 8 seems to have divided opinions but personally I'd go as far as to say it's actually one of my favourite series because as well as the four main characters, series 8 also has other memorable characters that appear throughout the series, some of whom should have their own spin-off series in my opinion! Also Holly has some of the best lines in this series too, my favourite part in this episode is when Starbug gets stuck up the giant rat's bum and Holly says "I hope we don't get stopped by the cops, they don't like it when you're rat-arsed!" Rat-arsed being a British slang term for drunk!😁😁😁

The reason Norman left, ironically, only lasted a year. Living in Scotland, he didn't want to go to rehearse in London, only to film in Manchester. One year later, they are rehearsing & filming in Shepperton, London.

Season 8 had me in tears with laughter.

Season 8 divides opinion on its overall quility, but it does contain an episode called " Cassandra," which I consider one of the classics of the whole series.

The New Red Dwarf CGI model was used for the remastered version's of seasons 1-3. The nanobots rebuilt the ship as it was intended to be before jmc cutbacks. The new blue midget in this series is also from the remastered version's of seasons 1-3

People just hate change . Season 7 was great . Tikka to ride up there with best ever episodes. Overall was really funny with great lines .

All subsequent seasons have their moments and at least one classic episode.

Season 6 was definitely the best, but the following seasons weren't necessarily bad. Even seasons 10, 11 and 12 had their moments. But 9 didn't.

@After Work Reactions I think you forgot to upload the final 2 episodes of series 7, there were 8 episodes in series 7 as opposed to 6 in all the previous series...the names of the episodes you missed are Epideme and Nanarchy.

I don't think there's a bad series up to 8. Some are better than others. I rate 8 quite highly, less a mark or two for cheap CGI. It was great to have Holly and Captain Hollister back and some other great actors livening things up a bit.

I can never decide which series I rate the least, 7 or 8

I never could quite get into it after Season 6. They do all have their moments, but I think there is a noticeable change in the style of humour between 6 and 7. I think Season 7 onwards tends to be more goofy and full of visual gags. I think I've only actually watched Season 8 all the way through once. I've watched Seasons 1 to 6 countless times and can happily watch them over and over. The less said about Back to Earth (Season 9) the better really. I cringed my way through it when it was first broadcast, and I haven't watched it since.

Just in case you didn't know. The reason why red dwarf ship looks different is the original model fell off a shelf and was unrepairable and cgi was coming in to tv more.

Season 8 is great. F the haters. There is no such thing as a bad ep of Red Dwarf.

for me there is a plot hole in this series, why isn't there a second Kochanski, the one which appears in this series is from a different dimension so what happened to the one who died on Red Dwarf

First time watching anything from season 7, sadly I have to agree with those who said they were not as good. I could sense the change in writers, the lines just didn't hit the way that grant and naylor's scripts did.

The characters were fully flanderised in this season becoming parodies of themselves. Horribly broad comedy replaced the subtle pathos of the earlier shows with jokes about periods, erection gags and archaic references to shows like you've been framed which were past their sell by date even then. It's not fully visible in this episode which, like Tikka to Ride, was a fairly promising start to a season that soon derails into more of Doug Naylor's dreadful observational comedy about women. Then there are the latter episodes where Doug just completely abandons any sense of the 'sci' in sci-fi and writes himself into such a corner that he didn't even try to write himself out of it when the show returned years later. He was writing to fulfil a commitment at this point and wanted to end the show and do a movie reboot instead. Thankfully the show does recover and refinds itself somewhat in the Dave Era although there is still the odd misplaced and out of touch joke. Sadly we've likely seen the very last of it as the bitter legal saga between Grant and Naylor and the age of the cast means we might never get any more at this point.

Red Dwarf is S3 to S6

If you expect Red Dwarf to make sense then you're going to be disappointed Over the years the crew has gone from 400+ to 1700+ for instance The continuity in the show is deliberately erroneous Take Rimmer world as a classic example. Rimmer created clones from his own DNA however Holograms don't have DNA 😂 Don't try to make sense of it, you will fry your brain 😉

CGI ruined the feel for the shows for me, it was bad even then.

holly left the show because he moved to scotland .and the studios where in englang and he didnt want to travel back and forth from england and scotland every week
