The most perfectly sound explanation. Due to the sheer embarassment during his time with the famed Copycat, he vowed never to speak again. As the years went by, his training grew harsher to the point he became a SECOND BotW Link, whose burden was so great he lost the ability to speak.

If you ask me, the silent protagonist concept in video games is completely overrated because it means that the hero is devoid of personality, which makes them somewhat unappealing and hard to figure out what their personality is truly like. :P

Cooltrainers (Ace Trainers in later games), Cue Balls (Roughneck in later cames) Rocket Grunts, and Sabrina all had whips. Tamers (only appearing in Kanto) also have whips, and what's weird is that they're the only ones who _keep_ their whips in both remakes. The Rocker (another Kanto-only class) has what looks like a whip, but it could easily be an electrical cord.

Early pokemon were more monsters than anything, mini-kaijus and beasts, only later in development they realized they needed more cute pokemon and turned up the friendship factor.

I don't think it's canon to the main series games because it would completely fuck the timeline (I think) but that doesn't mean that any lore added to the game can't apply to the rest of the games. Sides, Masters isn't the only game he spoke in. The mimic chick in red and blue actually copies what red says, showing that red actually did speak despite there being no text box to indicate it

im amazed it managed to be found in the first place! it had been missing for around 20 years, the fact that it managed to resurface and was released to the public even is still incredible. Im glad that it was found and didnt end up being another Socks the Cat situation (before someone bought it from the guy who found it of course)

@@perkypears The ongoing theory right now is that there was a collector of various games, they got the cartridge somehow, and due to its rarity he wanted to keep it for himself. They died, and their family sold off their stuff to some shop owner. The shop owner realised exactly how rare the cartridge they got was, and promptly uploaded the extracted data and shared it with PRET (the team that reverse engineered the game) anonymously over Discord. People are still a bit on-edge about it because nobody knows how they got their hands on the cartridge- Its a bit shifty, and they most likely got it through... Illegal means.

Not only does the Copycat NPC prove that Red talks, it also shows that canonicallly, the line that Red uses to start conversations with the NPCs in the game is "Hi! Do you like Pokemon?" That makes him seem a lot less like a stoic, cool-headed trainer and more like a nerd who is so obsessed with Pokemon that he wants to talk about them with absolutely everyone, which honestly is more relatable.

The manga is not canon. It has nothing to do with Game Freak or Creatures, or even Nintendo. It was most likely the Eevee from Celadon. It evolves into Espeon by friendship, winning battles grants friendship points. Espeon is most likely chosen becase Gen 1 games are always at day time. But Lapras makes more sense. Its the Lapras from Silph Co's NPC.

You’re wrong. That’s okay though. A VPN will make it 100x harder for any hacker to actually figure out who you are. No hackers just spam input random numbers until they hack something. They find out info about you, where you live, and try about 10 different things normally before one works. A VPN will make it much harder to tie any purchases to you, effectively making it harder for anyone to get into your information

Honestly I think it is a rather good character development in the side of Red. From a happy-go-lucky kid to a serious guy. It happens. One moment were just having fun but then the hardships and challenges of this world made us think that the world were living is not what we thought it would be. Its full of pain and sacrifices, and only the strong will survive. Maybe the hardships Red encountered throughout his journey made him like that

I speculate Lapras was added because Lapras was a gift given to him from an NPC for assisting the defeat of Team Rocket. That would also help out with Gen 2’s story, where they mention how they were defeated multiple times

Funnily enough, possibly by coincidence, Ninten was also the main character of Earthbound Beginnings, which was developed by APE Inc, which eventually became Creatures Inc, one of the co-developers of the Pokémon franchise.

@@noircore but Snorlax is more than that. Snorlax is docile and unassuming. Short tempered yet never holds a grudge. What you see as simply eating and sleeping is more than that. Snorlax is the representation of a simple life. The person it's based on could merely be of it's docile facial similarity, but it could also be a homage to the man's simple life philosophy.

3:44 If I remember right, Red has an Espeon on his team in GSC because of the Pokemon manga, where he had an Eevee (named Vee) who could change between any of the Eeveelutions on a whim until it permanently evolved into an Espeon (which is a massive downgrade in my opinion). I can't remember if it was ever mentioned on DYKG/DYKM, and if it was, I'm sorry!

@@tripled2096 True, but Vee made it's first appearance in the RGB Manga roughly 2 years before GSC came out. Although yes it didn't permanently become an Espeon in the manga until a while after GSC came out, but he still had Vee before then, so it's still possible that why he had an Eeveelution in the games (probably Espeon to give him type coverage). I'm not certain like I was a year ago, but I still feel like that's right.

@@MarcusRalphson Most likely and more. Obviously, they were much more smaller. Kanto in the beta was the size of a city from the original games. And just to be clear, there still would have been 8 gyms I believe.

They gotta have things to talk about in part two. Also that sounds like some untrue bullshit. And the real ending of Gen 2 is better, where Gold goes and defeats the Elite Four himself and then goes on to battle the Pokémon Champion, who turns out to be Red.

@@dildonius Dude... it's been proven already. It was from the beta. Just to be clear, the game would have still been the same size as the officially released game (Minus Kanto) but the areas would have been condensed considerably. To back this up from content in the actual video, Blue was planned to help you at the start of the game instead of being a gym leader (Because the only gym leader in Kanto would have been Red). Maybe instead of gym leaders, you would have fought champions? The plan was to have you conquer all of the Pokemons version of Japan instead of one region instead. This was done most likely because gen 2 was originally planned to be the last games in the series. Obviously, it was too successful to do that. Gen 2 was delayed for 2 years so having to change the whole region would make sense for one of the reasons it took so long.

In the last 22 years I've read hundreds of magazines and dozwns of books, and surfed hundreds of websites which has let me go through tons of stories, anecdotes, day-by-day updates from back in the day, current interviews with the developers, and timeline compilations. I've also taken part in internet forums and fan discussions, and so on and so forth. And literally, your comment is THE VERY FIRST TIME in my entire life that I read such a story. Unless you are Satoshi Tajiri then I'm afraid I will not believe this

@@rayankhan3858 Yes, but temporarily. However, Red's game team doesn't have a Poliwarth, Gyarados or Aerodactyl. These Pokémon are Adventure Red's iconic and exclusive Pokémon he has (much like how Ash is known for having Kingler and Muk). Thus it is impossible to determine if it's games that reference the manga... or the manga that references the games. You can easily make the argument that Red's Espeon is based on Ash's hypothetical Eevee counterpart against Gary's Umbreon. It just has as much weight as Red's Vui.

I really enjoyed this video. I'm really surprised there's still so much to learn about the first gen and second gen games like this. I thought this video was going to repeat with old info (some of it is a little dated) but I really did learn a lot of new things about the games and Red. I hope there's more to share in the future.

Well Earthbound is one of the many Inspirations of the creation of Pokemon, so I wouldn't be that surprised that the debug name of Ninten would have a double meaning as a reference to Earthbound and Nintendo. But idk.

(previously known as Ape, Inc.) is one of co-founders of The Pokémon Company, responsible for developing many (usually 3D) games from this franchise, it may be as well something more then just reference. After all there is interesting theory that Pokemon Red/Blue could take place after Mother 3! Starting from similarity between Giygas and Mew, Dragnite stones in Pokemon Black and White, similarities between Ultra Space and Starmans, not to mention that Lt. Surge downright say that he is American soldier (yup 0-0) who fight in some huge war (considering franchise lore it should be thousandth year ago). Seriously, they recently drop hints like crazy that Pokey Minch Monsters may in fact be connected to Earthbound!

He is not called Satoshi "in the anime and in the game" in Japan". In the games he is named Reddo (that is, Red, after tranliteration into kana), and Satoshi in the anime. So Red it is.

@@VeggiePopper He was called Satoshi in the Official Fan Book of Pocket Monsters which has a preview of Pokémon Gold/Silver. Satoshi Tajiri also called Red (game) "Satoshi" in an interview once. Ergo, Red is Ash and no amount of retcons and revisions can change that.

I find it kinda hilarious that Red's appearence in the Alola games is kinda made obsolete by Pokémon Let's Go P/E, the games that essentially retconned all of his feats in the Mega Evolution universe (Team Rocket, Champion, Mewtwo, Catchin' em all).
