Ask that guy if he has "The Red Key"! it is crucial when you take your bike into the shop to do full maintenance on it and from what I've read, it opens up programmable electronics and other things on your bike. it is also the key that is the master for which all other copies to your bike would be made. Ducati has some of the longest service intervals out there - as long as you don't f around with the electronics you should be just fine. Sure, the services you do are a bit pricey - but the newer tech is pretty badass.
