There's not always cameras...there is a sensor in the pavement for probably 90% of intersections. If you've ever driven a motorcycle you know this and you have probably seen the ground sensors and you've probably waited forever at a light then decided to pull up closer and then saw after you got closer the lights changed.

Yeah.. What happens if the camera didn't see you approaching due to conditions, or when something was blocking the intersection so you couldn't enter before the green light ran out. Now the cameras don't see you approaching, and you're sitting there waiting with no call for green recognized by the system.

Often that's intentional. Cities do that too "calm traffic". Some traffic engineers do a horrible job at setting these like out here in Los Angeles. In order to get every green light you have to go like 10 over limit. One trick about intersections with these cameras is you have to stop at the limit line if you are past it off in the camera won't pick up on you and you'll have to back up in order to get the light to change.

Its so annoying because our lights our on timers instead of sensors in my small town. Constantly having your green light turn red for 30 sec for literally no one is so infuriating. Then the timing is so horrid when one light goes green the next one goes red at the same time.

There are two light close to my house that do that. At night time, no matter how fast or slow you're going, you'll hit a red light

Usually cities try to synchronized the lights so that if someone is going at a certain the lights will turn green. It will happen for the main arterial street.

I think the internal affairs department is for “internal affairs”. They investigate their own. Any evidence would be collected by someone in the forensic evidence unit or whatever they call it. I’m sure they can be reviewed if need be but they don’t sit around and look at it. Law abiding citizens don’t worry about evidence. They got none on us. 👍🏽

It costs quite a bit of money to get full time cloud hosting for so much video footage and to automate the storage, and the low taxes in Texas meant we could barely even afford these in the first place.

I was in an accident near a federal garage and we tried to get them for court but nope because it wasn't a federal case.

My town has both these and a few plate readers. The plate readers assisted in catching a stolen vehicle the first month they went online.

In Oklahoma, an officer has to be involved with delivering the ticket, so there are very few if any. Most states are removing them, do to how easy tickets are to fight or they’re finding them against the state constitution

They're mostly license plate readers to track everyone, everywhere, always. Once they update the resolution, they'll track faces too.

It doesn't hold up in court if the resolution isn't good enough to confirm it was you driving. Could have loaned your car to a friend or sibling

There is a separate light detector that detects strobe lights from emergency vehicles to give them the green light as they approach the intersection. They have been in use since the mid sixties. You can do the same thing by rapidly flashing your headlights. But don’t like that and will harass and ticket you for doing that.

Some otherwise open government spaces will Also handle sensitive information and prohibit audio/video recording for privacy reasons, which they can do.

@@bonjoviy3413video from these are used in courts to show routes taken by a person when they are suspected of committing a crime. While they won’t send you a ticket they do have you on video. Some of these like in La have the ability to see your license plate read it and track you around the city.

The feed stays local to the traffic light although I’m sure some places do it differently especially for larger metropolitan cities.

It's not designed to catch you speeding/running red lights, and not to give you tickets in the mail, it was just a bonus and happened to somehow have a radar built in, but of course not intentionally 😂

I've installed a lot of intersection cameras in my city, you can view remotely and they can track speeding/ stolen cars. Crazy stuff.

In my state, you can watch the camera feeds online. Just search a city or state and traffic cameras and you might find some!

Bad weather like snow or ice or some other problem that causes the ground to have a layer of something could cause interference. With cameras, as long as nothing is sitting over the lens I don’t think much can stop their detection systems

I agree. Unless it's setup similar to the sensor cams being shown in this short. Which are conveniently designed to be in that very specific location, all in order to function in the manner to which it operates for. It's good to stay mindful that Big Brother "COULD" be anywhere but you still need to think logically. Even though we live in a world of ever evolving tech yet if you were to start asking around you'll quickly understand that what should be obviously done according to todays tech capabilities are zilch and void. Just look to MH360? (That lost Malaysian Airliner), you'd think airplanes flying overseas would be tracked via GPS or the like. Yet pilots need to relay their current logistics to a land based traffic controller because while that vessel soaring over Earths oceans will practically be all on your own for hours and no one really could say where you've been. Not until your pilot makes radio contact once again with the next land based air traffic controller.
