You did a great job on that one. Looks like your toe-board is working good. That’s some nice looking red pine. Glad you could use that bed section. Solar kiln ok will be waiting. Thanks for sharing…

Thanks Steve! It's always interesting sawing a new species for the first time. The solar kiln has been on the list for awhile so you shouldn't hold your breath waiting for it.🤣

Red pine is usually pretty well behaved.

It's funny how you don't notice a wavy cut(s) until you're all done. Good video.......even though Fenway was busy elsewhere.

She doesn't like the heat and the deer flies really harass her. She does like the a/c though! In spring she lays on the last remaining snowbank and begs it not to go.

You know what’s missing at your mill? Sawdust Mountain. It’s so clean around your mill. You need a Sawdust Mountain. 😁

Paul had just cleaned up. Sawdust Mtn is around the corner next to woodchip mtn. We'll have to get a shot of it for you, along with all the other clutter.

That's a nice setup. Lots of red pine in our area of the Adirondacks.

We had a stand of red pine that was planted too closely together and was starting to decline, so we had it logged off. That was before we got the mill. Now it's just a few here and there. I wouldn't hesitate to mill another!

Ok let's see if I can remember all my questions 😏 when you rolled the log the second time with the bark down, did you level the pith again? Last time I cut a red pine on the mill it was green and it had almost an overwhelming camphor smell. Did the dry log have a distinctive smell? I hate wavey cuts, at least you could salvage your header. Paul, hope your finger feels better, on a good note...you didn't pinch a good finger. Good video. Can't wait to see the solar kiln build.

We got lucky on the 90 degree rotation (third cut) and the pith was already level, or close enough, so didn't have to use the toe boards. This tree was taken down by the utility tree service crew last fall, it had no real scent. I have no idea why we weren't checking our cuts as we went, we already knew the blade was getting dull. We are usually good about that. Paul had a Dr's appt for his finger 2 days after filming this, finger is doing well! We plan to build a couple drying bunks before working on the kiln, but hope to work on that sometime soon...

Looks like your getting good use out of your new toe boards.

They're easy to use, glad to have them. My only criticism would be that they pull the log away from the log stops when you lift it up. No big deal to shift it back against the stop. Thanks Jeff !

So first off, did I hear solar kiln?! I'm a bit jealous..... 2. Did you show adding the extra track section to the end? Because I don't recall seeing that before. Andy, love the mic on the bill of the hat..... :)

Kiln is on the list, not sure when it will happen, but trying to get some of the important structural pieces milled for drying. The extra mill bed section is the old one that was dinged. I think it debuted in "Will it Fit? Sawing a 21' Larch..." The Mic on the bill may have worked too well, my audio was stronger than Paul's. Getting a bit irritated with these Rode mics, may have to try the DJI ones and their action cam too. Thanks Josh !

@@southernadirondackoutdoors Well once you get yours done, if you want, you can come down and make me one too! :) Ah, okay I must have missed that it was installed in that one. I bet it's been handy to have on there. Yeah, I got fed up with trying to use a separate mic. I've really liked my current setup with the cold shoe mic that plugs into the camera. Works well.

Yeah, Paul really likes stacking all sorts of stuff on there ... we've learned to step over / through the bunk instead of walking around. With the 4th section we can cut up to 24 foot.

We milled some larch (Tamarak) for our local tree service guy and one of the trees was 21', so we added the extra section of track we had. A while back one of our mill bed sections got a ding in it right where the mill head rides across it, so we bought a replacement section with the intention that the original one would be added on the end. Not sure when we'll get started on the kiln, would like to get two more drying bunks built before we work on that, but hopefully this year. Thanks George!

Great video! I ordered a Woodmizer lt15 and I was wondering where you got the drill driver operated log lifter you have mounted near the front? That looks like a great addition!

Thanks! You'll love your LT15. The log lifter (or toe-board) is a new release from Wood-Mizer. They are not perfect or cheap but do work well and help save your back. There is one on the other end as well.
