The meal was on the fence? Is that because the mom always took the meal when you placed it on the branch without giving the baby a chance?

I had tossed the treat on the ground close to the fence. It hopped down to grab it. You can see the chick look up when Titan flys in and lands above me. Titan grabs any treat we put on the limb then either has the chick “take” it from him or drops it on the ground. Thelma just drops them on the ground after the chick pursues her. I had a chick grab one off the limb this morning! It actually sits on the limb and lets us walk around her. I think it is female, bigger than Titan. Just ignores our dog!

You are so lucky, I can't figure out how to make Molly's fledglings not fear me. The other day I zoomed in with my camera, but the hawklet flew further away. He/she isn't taking my food. The male parent has been providing my food to the fledgling. I haven't seen Molly around because she needed to get her mind off of feeding the fledglings. Nesting season began in late February in Florida. So she is at the cutoff point (I think). Its always the females that are so more determined! Two hawks that I've ever hand-fed were both female hawks! The closest I've got to a male hawk when setting food down was maybe 5 feet, but that hasn't happened since a couple of years ago. Lately all the male hawks have been skittish. The weather's been dry here. Maybe dry weather is good for these hawks. Perhaps there's too many snakes or lizards in the area right now. I did in fact see that video of you setting a meal right next to Peppermint. Speaking of which, since you named this juvenile Peppermint, consider naming hawk #2 Butterscotch. What a sweet idea!

@@jthejh We already named one Butterscotch, that was the first baby to come visit, doesn't come around much but did see Butterscotch this morning. There is a third baby we named Sugar Cane. We've only seen that one a couple of times. Peppermint actually hangs around like Axle from their brood two years ago did.

Hmm, I see. That proves that every brood thinks alike! That's beneficial for you because you know that you can do the same methods for feeding them that you did with the last brood.
