I was happy to see Danielson drafted by the Wings. I know he will be sent back to the Wheat Kings, but should make the Wings for the 2024-2025 season.

Danielson seems way closer to being NHL ready than many gave him credit for when he was drafted, myself included. I could see him becoming a star in the NHL one day

I was as surprised as you with ND's selection but he's gone out there and silenced the doubters. I've even seen posts on forums advocating him starting in the NHL. TBH I'm glad for him to return to Brandon as he's going to play a lot of minutes and take on even more responsibility which will be better for him in the long run. He's got a very good chance of making the team next season though and could even leapfrog Marco Kasper in the process. Really excited about this kid, and belated birthday wishes to him.

When Yzerman drafted Seider, people said he had no offensive upside and that his comp was Brandon Carlo. The first thing Yzerman said after drafting him was “people are underestimating his offensive upside.” And here we are again with people sleeping on a prospect’s offensive upside even after Yzerman takes them. Shrug. People will find out eventually. Even if you’re one of the last to get there.

Considering Yzerman is one of the greatest two way players and Nate was coming out in the draft as a two way guy, I think Yzerman would be a good judge in that department

Yzerman was critized for selecting Bergeron for Team Canada. He seems to be searching for the next Bergeron ...Danielson, Kasper.

Happy for Danielson. Still would've taken Benson at that point in the draft, but happy to see a guy so many people claimed had a low ceiling (but a good floor) show more promise so soon after drafting.

The fact that he was the rival/friend of Bedard supposedly sold it. When you're mentioned/compared favorably to a generational talent, it's a good sign. What you need to remember with Wings prospects is they have to be humble. Team first is the Yzerman mentality.

Also, Larkin will be on the downslide when Kasper and Danielson should peak. That's how you build dynasties.

I've heard that as a team with a mathematical chance of winning the draft lottery, the Wings were given an opportunity to interview Bedard before the lottery. The rumor is that the Red Wings took the interview, even though they knew that they had almost no chance of being able to draft him, but then spent the interview asking Bedard all about playing against Danielson. If true, that was a creative way to get an inside scouting report.

@@jeremykraenzlein5975 Well put and confirmed by Kris Draper in a post draft interview with one of the local outlets. I think Danielson was already towards the top of their priority list anyway and that sealed it. Not sure how much interest there is outside of the Detroit market, but I glean a lot of insight into DRW front office happenings from Darren McCarty on the Woodward Sports podcast. I wouldn't necessarily say he has the inside track on everything as Yzerman is notoriously tight lipped outside his inner circle but McCarty has remained friends with many of his former teammates. He heaped a lot of praise for Danielson and ASP in the days following this year's draft and asked people to wait until they make the roster before passing judgement. As fans (many of which have played in some capacity over the years albeit at way lower levels), we all feel that we have a clue which 18 year olds are going to turn into all stars and how a GM should do their job. I was guilty of it as well for a short time. Shane Wright was the tipping point for me. So much content was derived over his slide out of the top spot and how that made his career a "bust" in spite of him not playing a single pro minute at that point. Lego here had a field day picking that poor guy apart. Maybe it's the empathy that comes with getting older, but I felt it was just plain wrong to ruin what should have been the most exciting part of these young guys lives! You wanna call a guy a bust? Do it when they're 5 years into a career or when they leave the league for good. I'll put my soap box away now. LGRW!

Yzerman traded up in the third round a few years back with Tampa to take a guy he saw something in and wanted him. That guy was Braydon Point. Yzerman has awesome hockey sense and see's things fans don't. Look what he got for supposed superstar Drouin and that guy turned out to be a bum. Trust that he knows what he's doing, because he does.

Its funny when ppl think that GM is the one who makes depth picks. Its not a video game, he dosent have time to look up every 3rd round prospect. Its down to scouts and HOAS.

As a Wings fan I was unsure for the exact same reasons. Now I don't know if you watch other KZfaq hockey channels but I watched a video by Rob Talks Hockey and about half way through he made some very good points on why Danielson drafted at #9 was a good choice. The clip is titled "The Biggest Draft Mistake in NHL History?'" If mentioning another creators content in the thread for one of your videos I apologize and I mean no disrespect.

All we had for a RHC was Theodor Niederbach who is no longer on the prospect radar. Danielson fit the bill. Danielson plays with a narrow stance, skates into space to exploit gaps in the defense, and is able to get shots off that is very deceptive. I am worried about Marco Kasper, did not stand out. Must improve his skating and ability to get to the net.

if it was Holland then he'd go for the ranking pick and he'd be praised like he was with Zadina. Yzerman has a plan and he'll stick by it and makes changes if it is needed.

I hate to be THAT GUY but... I said it. I said it since I watched a shift by shift game of his. At times he looked like the controlled player in a video game transporting the puck end to end and looking for a CPU player for a one timer. When I saw that his team fared well against Bedard it was clear that he was the reason why. I'm not just some Yzerman fan boy. I don't like all of his picks. I thought Kasper had a limited up side because he doesn't have an attribute that really stands out as elite. I could still be wrong but he looks like the 3rd line guy to me. We'll see.
