Patrick Kane and Vladimir Tarasenko had high praise ofr Hockeytown, and it seems like the Detroit Red Wings fanbase had a lot to do with it.
Tune in as we open by discussing Kane, Tarasenko, and Fischer's media, Kane's love for Ken Daniels and Mickey Redmond's goal calls, how Kane helped convinced Tarasenko to sign in Detroit, and how an Original 6 franchise's legacy helped Yzerman ink the stars (4:10).
Next, we discuss the overall work that Steve Yzerman did this summer, and where the Detroit Red Wings are left for the upcoming season. How much offense can Dylan Larkin, Lucas Raymond, Patrick Kane, Alex DeBrincat, Vladimir Tarasenko, Jonatan Berggre, & others produce? Can Edvinsson and Johansson provide enough support for Moritz Seider on the blue line? Can Cam Talbot, Alex Lyon, and Ville Husso be enough in net (12:50)?
After that, NHL news including the Arizona Coyotes officially being free from Muruelo's grasp (43:30), Rutger McGroarty's trade situation and a broader look at UFA, RFA, and NHL signing rights, and a New Era in NHL hats (49:25).
All of that & lots more before we take your questions and comments during our Overtime segment (1:00:05) - enjoy!

Danielson makes the team as a middle 6 center and the forward group looks like.. Debrincat-Larkin-Raymond Tarasenko-Compher-Kane Copp-Danielson-Berggren Motte-Rassmusen-Fischer Veleno Kasper first call up for any center who gets hurt. Mazur first call up for any winger who gets hurt.

Switch Kane and Raymond imo. If Raymond is going to take the next step to be a star winger, driving his own line would help the team more. Kane has chemistry with DeBrincat and if he was on a line with Tarasenko who is playing defense? Raymond is better defensively and if Kane is with Larkin he doesn’t have to be totally responsible for transporting the puck and let Larkin stretch the defense out.

@@trentthurow5696I can definitely agree with you on that. Could also try.. Debrincat-Larkin-Kane Copp-Danielson-Raymond Berggren-Compher-Tarasenko Would make 3 scoring lines.. Raymond could drive that second line. Last time Copp was producing, he was playing as a top 6 winger.. Compher is a fantastic 2-way 3C, and just let Berggren and Tarasenko do there thing offensively

I’ve had some issues with the lines. I like the idea of Raymond on his own line and Kane playing with cat. But I also think Raymond should be on the first line.

Sometimes I get the feeling this channel does not do their homework and just goes off the most recent of knowledge. I corresponded with Matthew a few times in the past when he was doing the Red Wings prospects forum, very humble. His advent went largely unpaid for what is now salary cap industry.

Part of any responsible rebuild has to include a phase called "improve from within." If it doesn't, it wouldn't be a rebuild, it would be a rental team.

He was paid off by the owners to disappear and that was the plan the entire time. They were just upset that that team had to move so they lost the expansion team money, not to worry, they will get their free cheque (probably 2) in the next 5 years. Houston... and whoever else.

This discussion of the defense strongly demonstrates what a failure it has been from Yzerman. Acquiring Chiarot, Petry and Holli was such a bad move and now we have to talk about year too late about Edvinsson's first full year and is there place for Johansson

Rasmus Andersson would be the perfect player for the wings. Would fit perfectly on the second pair and take pressure off of Seider, produce enough offense, has a good cap hit. Idk if Calgary would even consider trading him but a starting point would probably be Berggren, Wallinder, and a 1st. I honestly think I would do that, it would fix by far the biggest need on the team.

@@trentthurow5696 Not even close to a proper deal dude. Maybe if they can squeak Holl or Copp deal get slid in there, then it makes a bit more sense. I'd way rather Weegar if there is a deal for a CGY dman, he'd cost more, but he is worth it.

Really interesting idea on shortening teams rights over a drafted player from Brad
@ericscottstevens
@ericscottstevens 22 күн бұрын
Some have speculated the NHL draft eligible at19 year old, that would give another year of development to showcase their talent and alleviate ELC wrangling . But really NHL teams want to claim kids at 18 to lock them in as soon as possible. It would be a herculean effort for NHL owners to agree to change the NHL draft from 18 to a 19 year old entry. Meaning they would have to skip a year of players in order to reset the birth year eligibility.

I think Edvinsson will prove himself worthy of playing bigger minutes, not sure about the top pairing yet but I think he'll make his mark. Johansson will hopefully prove himself as well but will be held back. I think they need to start planting rookies in the lineup here and there to give them a taste and make them hungry to succeed. I still wonder about Berggren, not sure what will go down with him, I still think he may be traded. Great podcast, interesting analysis.

Cap Friendly can count their lucky stars for Matthew Wuest, He basically presented the format who did it non proprietary. It grates me how the future powers see a free idea, steal it, and then are rewarded over the people who thought of the original premise.

Getting younger will add to team speed. Faster players can get back into more plays or lead to more dangerous chances. Less penalties hopefully from hooks or interference due to lack of mobility. Hoping the team speed can lead to positive outcomes and less clown car defensive break downs.

McGroarty isn’t the only one that has had issues in Winnipeg. A bunch of fan comments from videos I watched were pretty even at being pissed at him and/or being pissed at coach/management handling prospects incorrectly (putting in mediocre to lower end veterans instead of bringing up higher end prospects). Kinda similar to the talks we have had about maximizing value or impact of our prospects too.

AKA tanking for the lesser teams. Toronto did it drafting Marner, then incredibly sending him back to the OHL for 116 point season that did nothing for his development. It worked for them getting Matthews a year later.

I think that Dom’s models are crap lol. I say that with the upmost respect, because these things are hard to predict and analyze. That said…wasn’t he one of the ones picking the Wings to finish seventh in the Atlantic last season, and wasn’t he one of the ones saying the Wings rebuild was behind the Sens and the Sabers ? I also won’t buy into the Sabers until they get actual defensemen and not just forwards that line up on defense.

Given that we think theres: Mo, Simon, Chiarot, Maata, Holl, Gustafson, Petry, and Albert. Whos the top 6? Idk whats correct but i think id rather see Albert on the top pair with Mo than Chiarot. I think Chiarot can be a fun pair with Simon. I just dont want Chiarot with Mo and that leaves either Gustafson, Albert or Simon, and i would like Simon to anchor the second pair. IDK itll be interesting to see.

The absolute unwillingness by a subset of fans (podcasters...) to take off the kid gloves and stop coddling the shit out of Edvinsson is wild to me. He's a thoroughbred. Let him run. Let him show his abilities. It's like everyone forgot how Mo's entry to the league happened and are still terrified that young kids aren't ready for big roles. Ed has been THE guy on nearly every team he's ever played on. Having a 2nd THE guy in Mo will be a breath of fresh air for both of them.

The guys say it's a net loss but I'm not so sure, Tarasenko is a marked improvement over Perron, Gus will put up a similar point total as Gostisbhere with more balanced play defensively and Berggren has proven he is just as good of an O zone playmaker as Sprong. Not to mention Rass was having a career year before getting injured and goalie health is back at full strength.

It's easy to sit and there and be negative about the teams current roster and say we are going to regress but players like Taresenko and Kane didnt sign with us to be content with mediocrity and regression. Also Edvinson is a top 10 draft pick and has the talent to shoulder big minutes and play with the best so while he may not be Seider and have the experience, he is good enough to be a top pair. So yes Brad he's playing against those top players; he is that talented.
