I was having trouble deciding which trailer brake controller to go with and the red arc one has really won me over since actually using it a few times now. I means the thing is just automatic and works flawlessly. This install was done on a 5th gen 2019 Toyota 4Runner. The 4Runner can pull up to 5,000 pound according to the manual but I feel this is under best case scenarios and not in real life driving.
The install was tough but this isn't the full of red arc, it's the fault of Toyota for not making access to the dash panels easier.
First you must remove the floor door seal trim, careful not to rip it up and break a plastic piece like I did. Then remove the trim next to where your left foot chills out while driving. There's a little plastic nut holding this trim piece in, it has three little hole on its head and is right next to the foot rest, again where your left foot goes. Leave the airbag panel alone and remove the large piece the goes around it, under the steering wheel, and up the sides next to the steering wheel.
I mounted the computer part (or the brains of the system) under the dash to a metal piece that was clearly visible. Many mount it down next to the right foot but this can get in the way and is unsightly. My way it's out of sight completely. It drilled two holes and connected it with screws.
The red arc knob that come through that dash had a hiccup. The little bezel it came with did not fit the 4runner. I ended up taking one of the stock bezels and drilling/cutting it until the knob fit it. Not ideal but it works well at the end of the day.
