🕷 Redback spiders are one of the few spiders in Australia that is dangerously venomous to people!
🕷 Did you know that female redback spiders are highly cannibalistic? So much so, that the male will often sacrifice part of his body for her to eat so that he has more of a chance to mate with her before he dies!

Are they a docile spider if you were to pick one up? I know black widows are. That spider would be on my list to handle if I ever get to take a trip to Australia, along with huntsman spiders.

Good question! I would recommend caution. Redback spiders hide themselves in a messy web in urban areas, and the majority of bites occur from people accidentally putting their hands into the web. This particular spider was quite docile and happily sat on the stick during her relocation (she was living in a pool jet pipe that was about to be filled with water). Huntsman spiders, however, are not dangerously venomous to people and are just big and very fast 😊 let me know how you go if you ever make it to Australia one day!
