Got my license in one of those. I'll always have a soft spot for them. As much as people may like to poke fun at Magnas, even as a Holden man I think we should be just as proud of them as any Holden or Ford. Now we have no car industry and most of the new cars sold here are garbage. A shame.

Not anymore, Mitsubishi closed 2008, the rest waited until the 2nd half of the following decade before closing down and leaving Australia to imports only.

And all the workers, you can see why all our aussies cars were shit, no one takes pride, no one cares, just do this job shit, get paid, fuck off home and do it again. The complete opposite of say Japan were all their workers say at Hinojosa or Toyota are so proud to work there and take pride in their jobs and output.

@@emilyking329 In fact, the majority sales were Astron 2.6 powered and sure did have timing chains from its birth at Chryslers Lonsdale plant in 1979 until the last ones made in 1998. Mitsubishi Australia at least persisted and made chain driven cam and balance shaft engines for almost 20 long years...

That was true of Ford and Holden. Mitsubishi Australia actually designed the Magna- the Japanese parent company had misgivings about building such a large FWD platform, but they are now the norm. It makes the "Japcrap" garbage spewed by Folden fanboys hilarious as all their beloved "Aussie" cars are rebadged imports. Mitsubishi also used to assemble engines for these cars in Australia (and export drivetrains to other assemply lines worldwide).

USSR had just collapsed 5 years prior, the western globalist no longer needed to have strong manufacturing, to present an image of a successful system. (1994, built my first home and land $83k). Sigmas and Magnas wernt much good the auto gearboxes were breaking down under warranty the sigmas with their rattling timing chain woes re early Mitsubishi galants and la lb lancers were good cars! the saturn engine was very reliable and manufactured well they had no problems re mitsubishi cordias their engines wore out quick cylinder bore woes,Ford and Holden had their problems too cracked manifolds, broken rocker studs on the falcons weak floor pans on vb commodores I worked on them all really Australian motorist not getting good value for money spent on new cars back then maybe thats why new cars wernt selling compared to overseas vehicles.
