Redeeming Love: Tom Lewis on the Romance Film's Light and Dark Elements

Directed by D.J. Caruso and based on the best-selling novel by Francine Rivers, the period drama Redeeming Love is a tale of forgiveness and the power of love in an unforgiving world, set during the California Gold Rush of 1850. From the moment Michael Hosea (Tom Lewis) sees Angel (Abigail Cowen) it’s love at first sight, and he knows that he wants to build a life and family with her, but having been sold into prostitution as a child has hardened Angel and made her guard her heart in a way that proves to be more of a challenge to win over than Michael ever could have imagined.
During this 1-on-1 interview with Collider, which you can both watch and read, Lewis talked about finding the right mix of light and dark in this story, the casting process he went through for the role, finding the chemistry with co-star Cowen, and what the last day on set was like. He also talked about his experience making Gentleman Jack, what he’s learned about the craft of acting, and how he’d always like to be challenged by the roles that he plays.

Just watched the movie and I got to love the character Michael! Tom Lewis has played him well. Though story! For more movies with this kind of love, hope and less swearing

The movie is amazing! I was so moved by Michael's faith in the Lord and his pure love for Sarah. Tom did such an amazing job, I need more of him please. After watching it I started reading the book and it is even more magical and beautiful. The movie somehow did not portray the depth of the faith compared to the book, the bond between them was tighter in the books as well and how they interact with God, and the names Michael gave to Sarah throughout all hold such meaning, it's sad that they werent able to put it on the movie. 2 hrs wasnt enough for this story 🥺😔 I need a series hahahaha!

The strength to love unconditionally and the ability to hold out in consummating the marriage until they were in love comes from the grace of God. That is the whole point of this movie.

His character is really masculine, even if he's sweet and careful. Maybe it' s not masculine the adjective I would use for Tom, so he did a very good job

I saw this movie before I ever heard about the book. Tbh, had I known it was based on a Christian novel I probably wouldn't have watched the movie. I do respect everyone's right to religion but I hate that some people make a big deal out of little things like a couple of scenes involving two consenting, adult actors pretending to have sex in order to tell a story.. The movie definitely has a religious tone to it but it isn't overboard religious.. I liked that it gave a message of hope and a message of just how important second (or third or fourth) chances are... But, imo Angel is a lot more toxic than Michael realizes because (!Spoiler Alert!I) when Angel comes home and she's walking across that freshly plowed field towards Michael Hosea and looking all 'Little House on the Prairie'-ish, Hosea's dog (Maverick) didn't even react to her! No jumping for joy, no barking or whining.. Nothing! She has been away for 3 years! and Maverick just rolls his eyes like, 'Ugh this Beesh again'... And then he pretends she isn't there... If Michael had noticed this he would have sent Gomer...er...a...I mean Angel away kicking rocks! Definite deal breaker! :)

What?? Lol. I agree that she was toxic. He treated her so well and she kept messing with his heart. But it makes sense for her to be that way. All she had ever known since she was a child was pain and disappointment so naturally she was wary and suspicious of his intentions with her. She had never known a good man before. All the men she knew were sick and depraved bastards.
