For a first timer.. I think it’s forgivable to sample all the food that looks good without having to finish them all.. one simply can’t handle that much food 😅. Gotta pace yourself and treat it like a buffet line. $3-5 tapas pricing won’t be here for long as Singapore became a first world country in a very short span of 1-2 generations

Hello Piggy Puggy, welcome back! Lots of memories for me re RedHill as it was my first home when I was just a toddler! Now it is unrecognizable with all the new HDBs. Same for me, I spent more time in Tiong Bahru than RedHill, probably because my grandma lives there. In fact back then, there was not even a hawker center, only wet markets here and there. Economic rice stalls are always popular but it is also a lot of hard work with so many dish offerings to prepare. A value meal with so many ingredients for only $4! The hawker pricing never cease to amaze me. How can they afford to keep the price so low? Especially when you said the dumpling is $1.60 here but it cost $5 at a mall. Our dumpling here in CA cost $4-$5 (i.e. US$). Hmmm, never had Hainanese curry before. Let me know what it taste like the next time you stop by to taste it. Nice lady, modeling for you, ha! ha! Good job on the video, as always...until next time.👍😁👏

Morning Liz 😊 hope you had a wonderful Sunday ☀️ back then I was staying nearby.. first was at today’s Vivo city and then kampong Bahru area.. my world back then seems to revolve around Redhill. Telok Blangah. Tiong Bahru. Orchard road was like a treat. Movies at capitol costs $2 😂 remember those scribbled tickets? Circle seats maybe $3. I Used to hate the wet markets as a kid 😂especially Tiong Bahru that’s always wet and messy and stuffy for a short little kid with so many aunties carrying wet bags of fish and meat. For now.. the hawker landscape is also changing.. the old timers are still trying to survive and trying best not to raise their price as they felt it’s not fair to their long time customers.. on the other hand.. new players are definitely in for a organised profit making setup that’s easily double the price. Frankly speaking.. many of our younger crowd in Singapore doesn’t even feel a pinch having a $10 meal. So.. they would go for the nicer looking stalls and doesn’t really care about a few dollars more. I sometimes think those long lines on economic rice stalls could be becoz they kept their prices super Low.. haha.. curry rice 🍚 it’s sorta an acquired taste 👅 for me.. I like that slimey start by curry that’s infused with loads of tumeric.and I like mine also smouldered with that tau yu Bak sauce. My favourite is Nasi Kandar in Penang.. they slap on every pot of curry sauce onto the seemingly unappetising plate of sloppy looking rice. Can’t even see the rice 😅

*starchy curry gravy. Hope things are well over at CA. I’ve waited 2.5 weeks hoping that cases might be controlled. But Singapore just announced that this would be the way to go.. Long term strategy is to live with it.. no choice.. picked up my old bones and headed back with 2 masks and a super long lens to capture the action.. it almost seemed ridiculous.. I’m like shooting wild life at a hawker centre 🤣 hoping to catch some good shots at the lions and gazelles
@elizabethquintal2499
@elizabethquintal2499 2 жыл бұрын
@@Piggypuggy Yes unfortunately, this is our new normal. If only everyone would comply here in CA to do physical distancing and wear a mask but we are just too divided. Some even refuse to get vaccinated for no medical reason, it is their "medical freedom." Sighhhh, my sister and I wear 2 masks as well each time we go out. Just be extra careful when you are out there filming. Here in CA, restaurants are struggling big time, it is heart breaking with this pandemic. Yes, it is the same thing here, the millennials seem to have more money to spend and have an acquired "expensive" taste compared to us old timers. Glad that you are out there to support and appreciate these old timer hawkers, otherwise, they will be forgotten. Your lenses are really good as your video is clear and sharp. 👍 Take care and be safe.

Think in total there are 3 咖喱饭 stalls, the one along the row of Cha Siew & Wanton Mee had very gd fish cake, but all the stalls have gd meat balls which usually overshadow by pork chop. Meat balls are actually the under dog for curry rice. The clay pot curry rice is gd too. As for 焱 fried chicken wing, the stall @Commonwealth they sold is now better than 焱 as they remains juicy.

Say Char Kuay Yeow, Hokkien Mee, Laksa, Hainan chicken rice, nasi lemak and many more. I know the char kuay teowd are very different between Singapore and Kuala Lumpur. Singapore Singaporean char kuay teow are sweeter and wetter. The cooking methods are different as well. I thought it might be interesting.
