How to fit the bindings on the front of a classical guitar

In this video I show how to prepare the guitar to receive the bindings on the soundboard. The router is not able to do a complete rebate on the edge so here I show how to finish it of to receive the bindings.

Tnx for posting Pablo , I/ve always made my purflings about 2mm deep by 1.8mm wide (diy) and 2.5mm w bindings,After watching this it makes more sense to cut just 1 rebate or rabett as opposed to 2 seperate cuts.

Yes, that way I only have to cut one rebate. The thickness of the purflings is 2 mm and the bindings 2.4mm.

Are all classical guitars bound? If so, how before plastic was invented? What about violins, cellos, etc...?

Yes, all classical and flamenco guitars have bindings, except for the very cheap factory made ones which they usually have them painted on to keep the cost down.This is to protect and reinforce the edges of the guitar as it is quite vulnerable, This is not done in the same way on the violin family instruments. Violins have inlayed purflings which will reinforce the edges of the instruments but nevertheless the outer edge is still exposed and of course quite delicate. One of the reasons why violins are build like this is because you are supposed to be able to open the instrument up when necessary. If violins had bindings in the same way as the guitar have them it would be very difficult to open them without inflicting some damage. Guitars in the other hand have to be open in rare occasions for restoration work but they are not build with that idea in mind.
