Redman on MC Hammer Stepping to Him Over Diss: He Doesn't Mess Around

Social media has undeniably changed music in general, including how rappers send out disses, which Redman shared his thoughts on during a recent interview with VladTV. The veteran rapper explained that back in the day there were many steps involved in dropping a diss track, whereas today, rappers can upload their disses immediately. He also added that he likes that rappers don't have to meet in person to squash beef, possibly diminishing violent acts from happening.
Speaking more about rap beef, Redman shared a story about the time MC Hammer confronted him at the taping of the last Yo! MTV Raps episode over his diss on his debut album. Redman pointed out that MC Hammer is very serious about beef, adding that he knew the "2 Legit 2 Quit" rapper wasn't messing around when he stepped to him at the show.
Check out more of what he had to say about the situation in the above clip.

I understood it perfectly. Hammer isn’t a G, let alone an OG.. You must be a young head if you think Hammer was ever any of that. He won’t argue too hard with OP about it though because he’s clearly a twenty something square. Hammer was also a square. I’m a square too though by the way. 2 Legit 2 Quit

I hear you Shane and hammer did make a giant leap. But it was RUN-DMC who open the rest of the world to rap music. What Hammer did is show the rest of the world that rappers can entertain!! Hammers dancing and showmanship was huge!! But as far as rap culture getting exposure to mainstream America? It was Run-DMC that did that.

David Herring I love Run-DMC, but I don't think they changed the game like Hammer. Run-DMC came out in circa 83, Hammer 88. Run-DMC and Beastie Boys together didn't open doors like him. Commercials, sponsorship, headlining tours, packing stadiums around the world.

I absolutely LOVE the way hr spoke on MC Hammer!!!! Let me say something(s): I'm from New York, I'm a 70's baby, so I been listening to Rap music since pretty much day one, and I was in love with Rap Music in 1988, so I remember when Hammer first came out, and despite many artist who downplayed/dissed his music, I enjoyed his first two albums, and I appreciate what he did for the culture, and Red couldn't have said it better!!! I never really fed into the East verse West competitiveness that existed even since 1988, because I looked at Rap music as one big family, and family is many of times exists in more than one area of the country, and we all supposed to respect and support each other, and I always loved West Coast artist..

Hammer was well respected in streets of Oakland, every killa & dope dealer knew Hammer & wouldn't mess with him because he could hold his own. He was a Boxer & served 4 years in the Navy, he was also good enough to be a professional Baseball player & almost got signed by the Oakland A's. Hammer was absolutely a G, his brother Louis was a G as well but Hammer was not a punk at all. The crew he had backing him was one of the largest street crews in Oakland in the 80's, The High Street Bank Boyz, he even had the 69 Ville back him too, that's the equivalent of having two whole Mafia families as your muscle. That's why people were always shook for their life when they tried to disrespect Hammer & he would pull up on them, he would literally show up 100 deep & surround you like a Mob Boss & tell you straight up that he would smoke you if you didn't give him the respect he deserved. Hammer used to beat fools down, he would for real beat the crap out of people, so when all these East Coast rappers started dissing him they had to learn the hard way that Hammer was nothing to play around wit.
