Arturia Pigments has slowly and sneakily become my go-to VST synthesizer. It's also the one I reach for when I want to explain synthesis to people in my lessons. In this series, I'll show you how it works, and why I think it's dope.

I'm late, but thank you! 👍🏾 Especially for the random and macro parts. I've owned Pigments forever but never really got deep with it. Time to explore more

This is blowing my mind. I got Pigments 2 as my first VST synth with a discount code after getting an Arturia Minilab 2 last Christmas. I didn't realize I was holding onto such a diamond of sound design. Thanks for doing this series Jeremy!

Q: What does this knob do? A: Shit sounds good! Awesome video series. Jumped into Pigments with the awesome Black Friday sale and extra discount for owning Analog lab, and it's the most fun I've had for €69 in quite a while. These videos really highlights everything perfectly.

I am SO glad that this is the next section! The entire last video I saw heavy use of "wavetables" and I kept asking myself "what is this thing and why is it so cool?!"

I've created my own wavetables for Pigments using Java code, based on all sort of mathematical ideas. It's a lot of fun if you're into coding! You have to be very careful about handling wave endpoints and avoiding glitches, but once you get past that, it's brilliant. I love this synth!
@konamax9
@konamax9 2 жыл бұрын
How did you did this? I mean did you create a java file and execute that to output a .wav file?
@macronencer
@macronencer 2 жыл бұрын
@@konamax9 Kind of, yes. A wavetable is just a big WAV file with all the segments in it in sequence. I made a Java project in IntelliJ and it has all kinds of classes in it that represent mathematical functions, from which I can make wavetables that move in ways I've never heard before. Fractal ones are particularly interesting, but I've also used geometric shapes, binary sequences, Gray Code sequences etc. to generate shapes. I guess if I were the enterprising type I'd sell these as a pack or something! Maybe I should give that some thought.

One thing these videos make me wonder is whether pigments is better than vital? I am leaning towards getting a paid version of vital just to support the dev, but should I have both/does Pigments have something extra and special comparatively? They look similar in visuals, and while vital has sounded less good in presets they’re not always ... illustrative. These are all really great videos though!

I'd say Pigments comes out on top for versatility alone, but comparing the two isn't really fair.
