A long time coming update to my previous best on my favorite Boss track.
Really proud of how this came out. There's still a bit of time to save (in the current theory of this track), but I firmly believe that we're still far away from the skill ceiling.

The more I look at (and play) this game, the more I think it took some serious talent to make a true WipeOut alternative. It took these guys 2 tries but with Redout II they definitely made it, this game is up there. Pretty rare in video games to be able to say "Yup, this is at least as good as the - quote unquote - original".

I wholeheartedly agree with all of that. The more time and effort I've put into this game the more I appreciate all the attention to detail and QoL improvements from its predecessor. And the more it upsets me that this game doesn't get nearly the amount of love and attention it so desperately needs and deserves. Partly because it's unfairly compared to its predecessor and partly from publisher negligence

@dandy_is_lion I totally agree. Hence the importance of channels like yours, and AG Racing Central (Eric brought me to yours). The problem is that not only did WipeOut pioneer the genre (well subgenre, really*) but it also was at a time of revolution for gaming, and on a revolutionary console. The hype was off the charts. * I said subgenre because WipeOut introduced its own brand of slippery handling, if you compare it to the very first AG racer (F-Zero as we all know), which was not only revolutionary in its own right, with its use of the then brand-new and baffling SNES Mode 7, but moreover it was a Nintendo property, so the promotion and hype were out of this world. In any case, how could a successor, even as fantastic as Redout II, so much as dream of a similar exposition? It is down to the players, who need to show them as much love as they can. And that's another potential problem. I can't be sure as I don't have any numbers, but I sometimes get the impression that AG racers are not so much in demand anymore (hence F-Zero and WipeOut not getting sequels). I hope I am wrong about this, as it would be baffling to me - AG Racers, the good ones at least, are exciting as hell, beautiful and blistering fast.

@@nixneato Eric brought you here? How so? I tend to get shadowbanned whenever I leave a comment on his channel so I doubted that he knew I existed at all 😔 I got into AG racing at the tail-end of 2022 when my friend introduced me to Redout from its amazing OST. I fell in love with the Redout series since, and by extension the AG racing genre. It also came to me at time where I was at my lowest, mentally. Unfortunately WipEout and F-Zero flew over my radar, but I would've been way into them had I known they existed. I grew up with Need For Speed on the Playstation with my brother so I've had a deep-seated passion for going fast. I got into Redout well late into its run (5 years) and Redout 2 a bit late from its launch. That is good insight I had not considered. I do know that the AG racing genre was getting a bit saturated to fill in the void left behind the WipEout and F-Zero drought. From Pacer, Flashout, Ballistic-NG, XF Extreme Formula, Aero GPX, Redout, and some others. (Nintendo did release F-Zero 99 and there's the WipEout Omega Collection) It's gotta shine above the rest to gain much traction. But by Redout's very design it's quite harsh to new players, even with all its assists. Only the most dedicated of fans have stuck around and still play together every Saturday. Its game feel is unmatched and addicting. We wouldn't still here, putting up with the radio-silence from the devs, and the few bugs left over from its pressured early release, if we didn't have a deep seated passion for this incredible unparalleled-feeling game.

@dandy_is_lion Thank you for sharing all this. I truly hope you're feeling better, and I do believe these games and the relatively healthy community around them aren't the worst discovery when you need to remember the world has a few good things left in store, and you're not the only one feeling that way. About Eric, I might have been wrong, sorry about that. He actually made a video about other AG racing channels. I just checked and yours isn't in the description. I guess KZfaq brought me to you because I did explore these other channels. So I was wrong, even though Eric had some indirect influence on me finding you. About the shadowbanning, is there any reason for it? He seems very nice and answers a lot of comments, maybe you should reach out to him directly. As for me, I did witness the birth of AG racers with F-Zero but totally stopped playing after the SNES era, I grew out of it and early 3D games looked ugly to me. So I totally missed WipeOut, and I'll be honest with you, I only started playing the Omega collection a few days ago, and boy was I in for a treat. I actually got back into gaming during covid because I saw they released Virtua Racing on the Switch, which was one of my favorite arcade games as a kid. Then I upgraded to the Xbox and discovered Redout I & II, and realized AG racers really was my favorite genre. The speed, the sci-fi setting, the technique and reflexes, the beautiful presentation, the music... They're just something else. I recently crossed over to PS5 and discovered WipeOut, but since I don't have any nostalgia for it, I can honestly compare it to Redout II and, as I said before, these 2 are just top tier racers, and I would never say one is better than the other. If you like AG racers, you must own these two, end of story :) By the way, I don't know if you've played Redout II on Xbox and PS5, and I couldn't find a video that compares these two versions, but PS5 has a rock solid 60fps which the Xbox (Series X) doesn't. There are subtle differences, but they're there.

@@nixneato I'm sorry to hear about your own misgivings. I hope you're doing better now too. Covid was a dark era in my lifetime. Redout has a relatively small but dedicated fanbase which has been a nice hubble to grow niche into If you look at "New Comments" in the comment section of that video, you'll see my comments that share links to other Redout content creators. I think because it has links (since tagging isn't a thing in comments), I was shadowbanned. Even when I got rid of the links, my comment was still shadowbanned. I never got a response from Eric either, so I didn't want to bother him anymore I've wanted to try the Omega Collection as they seem to still be active online, which is cool to see. Plus WipEout's aesthetic and typography is just bar none The sky's the limit when it comes to creativity in this subgenre. I would've loved to see some crossover between Redout and WipEout, despite their different handling, because of their similar settings (time and place) and real world parallels Happy to see you on board with the Redout hypetrain :) It's quite addictive once you get the hang of it. I have heard that performance isn't that great on consoles but it's nice to hear that it's good on PS5. There are quite some godly Xbox players, like Malakai here in this comment section
