I've told myself since I was a kid that I would be an artist when I grew up. Then life happened. Decades later I've decided that if I don't take myself seriously as an artist I'm going to spend the rest of my life wondering what could have been. And in the years I haven't created art I've had this anxiety and fear about doing it. But a few days ago, I had an epiphany, and it's helped me disperse at least part of the anxiety and allowed me to draw a bit. I'm doing Inktober this year, something I've avoided the past few years, and this time I'm going to complete all 31 days. The drawings aren't extravagant or in depth. They're more of an artist's journal/diary of how I'm feeling each day. Yesterday was Golden, so I drew Smaug, and beneath I wrote, "Beware hubris." And I've decided to get some work together and send it out to a few places and see what transpires. I've also had a KZfaq content creator tell me that I can have my artwork appear in one of their videos next year. They are a person that keeps their word. And it's about a subject I deeply love. And, who knows, it may open up a few doors for me. At least...that's my hope. Thank you for the video!

What kind of art do you do? Me and a friend are starting up a comic company (mainly super hero stuff) anyways, theyre all really good stories and we want to get them out into the public, but we have been trying to find an artist for the past year or so and havent come across anyone. Would it perhaps be something you would be interested in?

Inspirational. I think you could boil it down to you didn't give up and were willing to try new avenues of work and grasp new opportunities. This is great advise. I'm a new KZfaqr trying to grow and many times I felt like giving up. You are living proof that if you stick at it you can go places.

This video was really inspiring some times whenever I’m drawing I feel like I not doing good and just give up or have artists block but then I realized what Stan Lee said “if you have dream follow it” and I have been doing that for the rest of my career.

this one hits hard !! it was wonderful and definitely something that was needed. i run a small art business myself and this year has just been a bummer. art is one of the only things i’m so dedicated too since it’s one of the only things i’m “good” at. but it’s just impossible to get people to see that part of it. i’ve done two art shows, hardly anyone came to the second one. i do commissions sometimes and nobody orders. i post art nearly everyday and get less than 5 likes. i have tons of prints for sale, and they sit in a basket because nobody buys them. the likes don’t matter to me, they never have. it’s just so frustrating to be a struggling artist, mixed in with the situation going on at home. i often feel like giving up but i know i can’t, so i try hard. sometimes just having someone saying something like this is so worth it. and i thank you because you’re an amazing influence and inspiration. 🖤

I started drawing again a couple months ago when a friend gave me a custom sketch book, and though I am an amateur, I feel like I am getting better. I decided to do Inktober for the very first time this year, and yesterday I did Cole McGrath from “inFAMOUS”. Looking at it, it wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t the best, and I fell into a depression the rest of the day; questioning why I was even drawing at all. Watching this video lifted my spirits. Thank you so much James. You’re one of my favorite artists ☺️.

That Dreamwave story sounds surreal. Specifically the part where Pat Lee's brother came in saying they had no background artist. I mean, what are the chances. Also I really like the drawing. Isn't that a recreation of the old Todd McFarlane ASM cover?

A long time ago I decided to quit being an artist because it takes me longer to do things that some would take half of the time to complete; plus their work would look better than anything I could ever produce. It was heartbreaking, but I had to quit because I was starting to hate the thing I love the most. After a few years of accepting this path, I noticed the desire to create never died. "Even through these darkest days this fire still burns, ALWAYS." Eventually, I decided to honor my love for art and make a comic book, though it's taken me over 12 years my 66-page comic book is almost complete and I have had so much fun throughout the process.

the thing i struggle the most with as a 14 yr old aspiring artist is criticism from others around me. i know its not a god thing annd it might be good criticism but ye i cant see through it and sometimes makes me think i should quit and the even bigger problem is that i wanna understand what the problem is but i cant lol

Wow, I still am subbed to Mark for years but I watched him once in a blue unfortunately. I started off a graffiti artist and tried my realism but once in the transition, my motivations quickly gave way and didn’t care to draw for years. I still love watching these videos. Every once in a while I’ll doodle for the hell of it but after a few minutes I just quit again lol.

Ok I get what he's saying but then there's people like me I've had did art for over 35 years and loved doing it . but all the people who are around me ether are critical and can't draw a line and or wants me to do something for them. If I just started a drawing just to do it. I get you're just playing around with your art stuff. For me it was a way to get read of stress or get through things. My wife has sead something like that. I replied back I'm doing it just because I want to... Then know one takes my work seriously unless they want it. Then it's important to them and if i say no. Thay can't have it I get jumped on over me refusing to give something I worked and I spent my time on. If I'm aloud to..Then this past December I burned all my old artwork I broke all my pencil I got rid of everything to keep me from doing any more artwork for anyone and my self now Family and friends get mad at me because I won't pick up a pencil for them or myself I would love to do it but when ever you are not appreciative for anything you are doing why are you doing it
